+75 Internets | Loved the movie. Assumed that the mothership was a spaceship sent to mine stuff and got ruined, or it could have been a rebel group that splintered off and got lost or something and Christopher was planning on returning and begging for help. Here's a question I haven't seen asked in this thread: If a million animalistic/semi-intelligent aliens landed in some shitty city in Africa, and pretty much ruined everything they got their hands(?) on, what exactly would we be expected to do? Obviously the worser thing would be to perform tests on them and exploit them for technology, but for the larger scale, if we couldn't get them to conform to our society, we'd essentially be forced to set up a welfare state for them or kill them all. If we set up a welfare state, how nice should it be for us to not be assholes? If we sent a million of our most rabid, anti-social asshole pricks to an alien planet with technology they didn't understand, how pissed would we be if they put them in a district and tried to exploit their technology? answer: Not very. |

| I guess it all really depends on the nature of that ship. Overall I thought it was pretty god damn good. Excellent cinematography and the CGI was top notch aswell(made gi joe look like a piece of shit)

+5 Internets | I've always wondered (I wrote a short story about this in like 6th grade) what would happen if humans found life on another [developed] planet, that had two factions at war. How would we react to that? |

| Excellent movie. As someone previously posted, very self-contained and a sequal probably wouldn't improve anything. I definatley feel the movie contained everything you needed to understand it as long as you paid attention to the movie. Yes, there were a lot of unanswered questions (why where the aliens so dumb?) but the answer wasn't important as long as the point was made (the aliens clearly were shown to be dumb, why doesn't matter). Very well thought out making the prawns both alien looking yet being able to clearly emote so the audience could understand what they were feeling. Also I liked subtle things like how the local humans no longer held a fear of the otherwise scary looking aliens. They interacted with them just like normal people. Good writing, good direction, amazing CGI and solid acting. I think the much maligned Wikas was great, as I feel he gave us great insight into the mindset of the South African's feelings towards the prawns. A smart, deep movie, cleverly disguised as an action flick. I think a lot of the negative comments on the movie show more insight into the viewer than the movie. |

| I finally saw it on Monday afternoon. The movie was EPIC. One of the best Sci-Fi movies I have ever seen and by far the best movie I have seen all year. I really can't wait to see it again and I really hope there is a District 10, 3 years later. Quote:

Personally I loved the documentary style of the movie. And for everyone saying that there were plot holes and such I enjoyed how some things were unexplained and made you think about them later on. Not every question has to be answered by the movie. And since it was a documentary that was sort of being told to us, maybe the people telling the story to us didn't have all the answers either. Either way I loved the whole movie including the story. I just wish I could have learned how the humans and prawns learned to speak each others language, I know it was something it probably took 10-15 years to learn but I would have liked to learn a little about that. I also loved to see how we put the aliens in a slum, how we disected them and ran tests on them, how we tried to study their weapons and technology for our benefits and for money, and so on. All of that stuff would sadly happen.

| I forgot to add one more comment, every alien movie where aliens come to Earth bacically asks the question what would they do to us? Would they have a war with us, take Earth over, or come in peace? Independence Day for example, the aliens attack us. But no movies have really looked at the other side of the coin and asked what would we do to the Aliens? District 9 basically asks this different question and shows us the answer to this question based on how we have treated other human beings for centuries. This was one of the reasons the movie was so different and fascinating to me.
