Kelly's Heroes, great Clint Eastwood war movie.
Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Le (2001)
Not sure how people here like foreign films, but this one is a must see. Doubt it can be called underrated tho.

And then there's of course Pan's Labyrinth, preety awesome fantasy movie, again.. not underrated.
Laberinto del fauno, El (2006)

The Long Kiss Goodnight purely for Samuel L jacksons preformance as the perrenial screw-up.

The 5th Element. Nuff said.

Evolution, don't ask me why but I love that movie.

For Love of the Game. I know most people will say Field of Dreams is Costners best baseball movie but I thought For Love of the Game covered more aspects of it, from a more personal angle.

A lot of good suggestions. Here's mine: PI.

It's by the writer of The Fountain and Requiem for a Dream. I liked it more than either of those.

I have to agree with the Infernal Affairs statement. It was so much better than Departed. The two sequels didn't really live up to it though.

As far as cheesy westerns go, you have to love The Quick and the Dead. "How bout that left hand, Ace!"

I don't remember anyone talking about it when it came out in theaters, but Butterfly Effect for sure. Alternate ending on the DVD was better than the real one too, so don't forget to check it out if you rent it.

Another one that seemed to be disliked a lot was Payback. Gibson was pretty dark and gritty in it though, so I guess I can see why it wasn't mainstream.

The Rundown. Give it a chance. Walken = classic.

In terms of mainstream audience? Yes

Not that it's the beacon of ratings, but just look at it on rotten tomatoes.
