If I recall correctly, the sun isn't dying just because it's run out of fuel. It's being heavily perturbated by a Q-Ball, some sort of roaming space anomaly in quantum physics, and the purpose of the bomb carried by the ship is to destroy that singularity so the sun can start working normally again.

That said, physicists have said that although it would theorically be possible to do just that, it would take millions of times more materials than required in the movie. Considering that the film states that all of Earth's fissible material was used up to create the second bomb, it would make it impossible with our current ressources.

I can't understand how Outbreak only got 2.5-3 stars, definitely underrated.

I mean, seriously. I love the movie myself but it was probably the sci-fi movie with the most accolades of the last fifty years from movie people. 2001 might be close

First being they are completely different films, yet if you have to pick of course 2001 takes the cake. Kubrick changed the game in 68 for Sci-fi and cinematography like no one else. However with that said there is a reason why 3 film courses I've had showing a wide array of films always chose Blade Runner as a must see film.

Best god damn Mise En Scene ever implemented in a film. Ever.

Bah... Unforgiven raked in Academy Awards and Money like nothing else seen in western before or after (well, excluding Dances with Wolves maybe). It certainly deserved it, but its hardly underrated.
