And on the topic of a "passing the torch" movie, it doesn't have to be that bad. Now, if they are thinking of writing a movie and passing off the franchise to a new team of actors AND behind the scenes people (writers, directors, etc), no thanks.

But if they want to put together a new team in this movie and send off the old characters, but continue to write and direct a franchise that they can't carry physically any more, it could have potential.

Well here is hoping the new team is Sean Williams-Scott, James Franco, Ellen Page, and Kal Penn.

Everyone listed above plays really well of others, but I can't really seem to hold there own as a lead role by themselves. You have Sex and drug humor, plus woman humor (if they write Ellen Page like she was in Juno).

Also, Rick Moranis is doing a voice for the Canadian TV show Bob and Doug (I think that is the name, only seen the commercials).

Ghostbusters 2 came out in 1989, which was 20 years ago. That would make Dana's son from the movie (Oscar) over 20 years old, and a potential Ghostbuster.

I'd say the role of Egon needs to be portrayed by the female. Either she's much like him, bit nerdy, socially awkward yet a scientific genuis (atleast in terms of paranormality) - elsewise she's.. hmm... well, nerdy in the sense she's still a genius, but kinda like of them of goth-girls who'd be a superhacker meanwhile. Best example I have on mind Lisbeth Salander from Men Who Hate Women, which I doubt is a movie that reached the US and all of Europa or the rest of the world so far(?). Ah fuck it. Let's go with the same type of girl, but hot and therefore an extra turnon, cause she's totally awkward and nerdy. Like a hot grown up Luna (yeah, stupid comparison, but the lass from Harry fuckin Potter.) Toss in Scarlet there and make her look younger. It'd be worth the bucks.

Ghost Busters has so much potential. They could go on and on. It's a bit of a "shame", that the tone obviously is humorous. It would be interesting to see it in a line of say Watchman. Following a second generation and their downfall and intern issues. (Not that one turned into is a blue god on earth (or ghost), and one wearing an idiotic owl costume and one of the old members secretly tries to destroy the world, more or less. Not that way.)

here's the thing. all of these remakes--from transformers to star trek to indiana jones to terminator to wolverine to probably ghostbusters--don't try to capture the original audience of the ip, the people who grew up with these shows and movies in the first place. it's obvious they don't even try: they forget cannon, change characters, add strange story elements, on and on; things that just don't make any sense in the respective context. this shows 1 of possibly 2 things. either they really just don't care about the integrity of the movie they're making (knowing shit will make money anyway) or the writers are just incompetent to bring the proper vision to the screen. i can forgive the latter, but the trend obviously points toward the former.

the vast majority of people, old or young, just don't care. they don't care enough whether the movie truly is a great film or not, and especially don't care whether it's true to the ip. turning transformers into dawson's creek; indy with space aliens; spock making out; deadpool with baraka claws; none of it makes sense in context and is just bad writing because it ignores the source completely. people will even be apathetic to advertising and product placement in a movie they paid 10 bucks to see even after sitting through previews and commericals of other advertising. people just don't care; sitting in a theater watching a combo of flashing lights and tits is enough.

and because of that, it really is the former. hollywood knows this all too well now unfortunately. we'll continue to get what we've got and will continue to get worse. i imagine the day when the entire movie is just one giant advertisement with tits and explosions. the boardgame movies aren't far from this.

this is what ghostbusters will be too. i'm pretty sure egon will be using dell computers and the neato car will have a gm logo.

tl;dr: lolzhoof will continue to rape our childhood, and it will only get worse.
