Felon

I'm not sure why there wasn't more hype about this movie but it certainly was one of the best movies of the year. Highly recommended. 8 out of 10.

I was quite surprised by this movie as well. I had never even heard of it until the day I watched it. It is definitely a good flick

Yeah, this is definitely one of the better movies of the year so far. Plot was a bit weak but it made up for it in other areas. I was surprised by Kilmer as his acting lately has been rather shitty.

I wouldn't go as far as to rate it as one of the best movies of the year, but it's definitely a good movie.

Excellent film, I loved Kilmer's character. I hadn't heard anything of this, but am very glad to have caught it. Thanks again, Movie House.

Just saw this based on movie house reviews, and yeah, it's very good. Val Kilmer is pretty damn awesome.

I saw it today, it was pretty good. I was more impressed with Stephen Dorff than I was with Kilmer, but it was good all around I think.

Good performances all around, especially Kilmer. Glad you posted this, I hadn't heard a damn thing anywhere about it.

Excellent flick, if you haven't seen it - you should. Only thing that bothered me..

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Is the whole inside the house/outside the house thing really true? Or were they trying to show the old poor public defender/system experience?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that part is true, but varies from state to state. We need a lawyer in here asap. Millie? Etoille? the other guy whose name I cant remember?

Would depend on the state. In a castle doctrine state, he'd be free and clear. If he is depending on self defense and not castle doctrine, he'd be screwed. He was clearly threatening the other guy by chasing him with a bat, if the other guy (despite him having robbed the house) could have felt threatened by the bat-wielding homeowner, ironically HE would have a case for self defense if he had actually been armed and shot the homeowner.

Self defense can be very twisted and result in some absurd scenarios, basically you have to be in imminent threat of bodily harm in order to use force to defend yourself (imminent means NOT RUNNING AWAY, threat would no longer be imminent) and in many states you have to respond with like force. Which means if you bring a gun to a fistfight, it doesn't matter that you were acting in self defense, you cannot shoot them. You could respond with fists. Exceptions abound for handicapped people, women, etc - but bottom line is in a non-castle doctrine state, it would probably go down as shown in the movie. His mistake was chasing the guy out of the house and ordering him to stop - citizens have no right to do this and doing so with a weapon makes him the aggressor.

I've toured a number of the Texas prisons and Dallas area jails though (never been in one as a guest, thankfully) and I think a lot of the movies are a worst-case scenario - at least from what I've seen (queue the "of course they wouldn't show it to you" comments, which are probably valid) most of those guys are head-down hoping to serve their time and get out. It was fucking creepy in every facility, it really seemed like a zoo. The animals were gawking at us as much as we were gawking at them. Extremely horrifying, can't imagine what being in there does to you psychologically.

Forgot to add, the movie was very good - I watched it this evening courtesy of bittorrent and it was a lot more than I expected. The wife is HOT.

Seen it the other day. Its all kinds of fucked up in that movie. Good flick though. Both Kilmer and Dorff had terrific performances.

I had a friend do 8 years and when he got out, he had to tell his family not to open the door to wake him up. It took him a long while to adjust to waking up in a regular bed. For a while he didnt know what the fuck to do.
