I've seen countless Oscar winning movies, and the performances put forth on them have never made me respect the art. His did. If that doesn't deserve an Oscar, then the Oscars are fucking worthless.
Oh good lord, what a crock of shit. Honestly.

I've never seen so much rampant mass hysteria by people identifying with each other over such a ridiculous thing.

It was a great movie. He did a good job with the part. I'd like to see the movie again.

But if you've never seen another actor in a great role aside from Heath Ledger in a fucking Batman movie, you haven't been paying attention.

What a nerd circle jerk this whole thing has become.

I've got to agree with Bristlbane on this.

However, i feel the character of the joker in this movie definitely reaches all time levels. Because of the script and the acting i feel joker is right up there with any villian of any movie in any era.

Well I'd argue that this is one of the only type of movies that can achieve this type of reaction.

I'm in the same boat. I don't know actors or acting in general worth a shit. I can tell you that the guy from Pirates of the Caribbean is Legolas from LotR but I doubt I could name him without peeking at imdb.

I don't know actors and I certainly don't care about their personal lives or how they act outside of the movie. But I know how the Joker should act from reading comic books and Heath Ledger (who I had never heard of until "the joker just died" hype train rolled through) did an amazing job at portraying him.

Fight Club is my favorite movie but I couldn't go into knowing what Tyler Durden was like. For all I know, they did a shitty job of portraying him compared to what the original writer had intended. I knew going into DK what Joker was suppost to be like and he did an awesome job at emulating that character.

You're right. He's barely been in anything and came out of nowhere. It would have been easy to miss out on him.

FWIW, Tyler was portrayed pretty fucking spot on in the movie. Chuck Palahniuk, who was a huge fan of the movie, has praised his performance profusely.

Well I hadn't heard of him either. Haven't seen Brokeback Mountain and Knight's Tale wasn't paticularily memorable. It isn't exactly a list of 14 high profile films there.

Very much looking forward to seeing this film

Did you fucking miss the entire first part of my post where I mentioned that I couldn't name the guy that played fucking Legolas in the LotR movies? I don't care what the RL name of the guy is in the movies just like I don't care about the RL name of the guy that delivers my pizzas.

There are some household names that you just can't miss thanks to their overwhelming popularity or volume of movies (Samuel Jackson fits this bill.) Heath fucking Ledger was not one of those guys until he died.

No, I didn't miss the fact you don't know the first fucking thing about movies. I think I pretty much got the picture.

The only thing the vast majority of people knew of Heath Ledger before TDK was Brokeback Mountain.

its no indication that you have no movie knowledge just cuz you dont know orlando bloom or heath ledgers name. you know their characters and enjoyed them. thats what matters and they would agree. i still dont know the real name of the man who plays chigurrah in NCFOM and im always forgetting the name of the tattoooed mexican guy who is in every robert rodriguez film. names arent always important.

Christian Bale deserves minus 1 oscar for his performance.

If he gets an Oscar nod, this will be exactly why. If he were still alive, I don't feel he would get the recognition.

Edit: Forgot to add this, before all the hate pours on - I'm not tring to indicate he did a poor job. I do believe it was a good performance, just not Oscar worthy, that's all.

Well what is oscar worthy then? What other actors this year deserve the nomination more? I'm not trying to hate, I just don't think there are a plethora of strong performances to compete with his, which is a very strong and memorable performance.

That's is a good point. Everything this year has been pretty balls. No one is very deserving of an Oscar. So I suppose yeah; Ledger stands a good chance.
