Rear Speaker Home Theater Setup

I just purchased some rear and side speakers for my 6.1 setup. I was hoping some of you gear heads could help me out on where to place them. Speakers:

(1) Boston Acoustics DSI465T2
(2) B&W CCM616

Both are ceiling mount speakers. The Boston has two tweaters so this will make a great rear speaker. The 2 B&W's will be the side speakers. I know this room is not ideal for this kind of setup but its what I got.

In the pics below should I put the B&W's(green) back near the Boston(red) or put them actually at the "sides" more towards the middle of the room?

Also included is the front of the room. Sorry for the mess =).

First pic is the wrong way. Second looks slightly off (sides too far forward). The sides go directly to the right and left of your head position while sitting on the couch normally. See pic.

You're going to have some issues with the speakers being so far above ear level. Angling them downward so they fire directly at your head will help some, as will messing with the delay.

Yeah, Vorph's diagram is correct. You want the side surrounds level with, or slightly behind your ears (6in-1foot) and the rear behind your head 2-3 feet. If you place the surrounds too far forward they confuse themselves with the front L and R and you lose any semblance of a proper full soundstage.

As was mentioned, Vorph's diagram is correct. Some of the issues with improper placement though can be fixed by having a receiver that can do automatic calibration (most new ones do).

That can adjust for room distortion, loudness, uneven speaker distances, improper angles, etc.

Took me about 5 hours to cut the drywall and run the wires. I played Saving Private Ryan and T3. The sound is pretty nice. Definitely get the full effect of the bullets buzzing past you at the Omaha beach scene. I would have preferred to put the sides a little more back towards the rear speaker to make sure they don't interfere with the fronts, but the 2x4s in the ceiling wouldn't allow that.

Also to note T3 wasn't really that bad of a movie. I forgot how it ended and plays nice into the new Terminator coming out next summer.
