Correct me if I am wrong, but the original storyline for PoP, wasn't he a genuine prince? Not some "street urchin"? FFS, they couldn't even keep that right?

In the original game (way back) as well as the first game in the "Sands of Time" trilogy, the Prince is just that, a prince. He is the son of the King of Persia, and gets involved with the Sands of Time when his father and his armies are conquering the lands of a nearby Maharadjah. The Dagger of Time is amidst the enormous treasures in his palace, and the cunning, evil Vizier of Persia wants it for himself, but the Prince gets it as a gift from his father instead. Soon enough, the Vizier convinces the Prince to use the dagger on the Hourglass of Time, releasing the Sands and causing the catastrophy that spawned the games.

It seems this movie is shaping up to be another great video game movie!

It looks like they are borrowing elements from both the Sands of Time trilogy and the new Prince of Persia game. The actor looks like the Prince in Warrior Within (the second game in the Sands of Time trilogy), but the "street urchin" origin is more like the "new" Prince, who is a tomb raider and looter and becomes "prince" by meeting a princess and helping her save her land.

Either way, this movie looks more like Assassin's Creed without Altaïr to me.

I wish I could give Jake the benefit of the doubt, but it just looks so cheesy. His hair is what really sends the cheesiness over the top for me. I don't know if it's a wig or what, but it just does not look like it should be on his head.

I'm sooooooo hesitant to have any sort of hope for this film, but there is certainly a lot going on that has potential.

Pretty obvious Disney had their hands all over this and chopped in some Aladdin storyline to make it more of an underdog story. Some of the romance dialogue furthers this notion, he even makes a few Aladdin wise-cracks. Kingsley's makeup looks overdone, thats my only complaint so far. But there was something in Persian history about makeup abuse I guess.

The camera cuts look up to par. It will sell big. Just keep advertising Jake with his shirt off, following the blueprint of promotion for Wolverine: Origins, and Twilight: New Moon.

This could be the first big videogame to movie blockbuster.

haha, come on, he is doing video game jumps..

I think the doom rule will prove if you make a direct reference to a mechanic of the video game the movie will suck. Add that to the general All Video Game Movies Suck rule and it's not looking good.

Strange, to me, the only good 1 minute of doom was when it was in doom mode.

Ok, no. There is a difference between awesome acrobatics and seeing some weird first person camera cinematic. One of them is awesome in plenty of films that aren't video game movies...I'll let you figure out which.
