James Bond : Quantum of Solace

Producers reveal title of new James Bond - CNN.com

Quote:

IVER HEATH, England (AP) -- "Quantum of Solace" is the title of the new James Bond film, the 22nd Bond adventure.
Craig

Daniel Craig, here in "Casino Royale," returns as James Bond in "Quantum of Solace."

The title was revealed to reporters Thursday at Pinewood Studios outside of London, where the movie is being filmed.

Daniel Craig is returning as Agent 007. He picks up where 2006's "Casino Royale" left off, with Bond contemplating revenge after his betrayal by his true love, Vesper Lynd.

Filming began at Pinewood Studios earlier this month. Location shooting is planned in Austria, Italy and Panama. Judi Dench returns as the MI-6 boss M and Mathieu Amalric ("The Diving Bell and the Butterfly") plays the villain. Additions to the cast include Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko as mysterious Bond girl Camille.

"Quantum of Solace" is due to open in Britain and the United States on November 7.

Should I be ashamed that I don't even know what that means?

Heh, I tried to think back to Casino Royale and how Vesper Lynd betrayed him, and I really can't recall just how the hell the movie ended. Just a vague sense of confusion about it.

Yeah, I know the words, its just a really odd phrase. A time of sad comfort?

It does fit the running theme that he was suckered by the first pretty woman with a brain he ever encountered.

I agree.

Fleming's Bond works:

James Bond books

1. Casino Royale 1953
2. Live and Let Die 1954
3. Moonraker 1955
4. Diamonds Are Forever 1956
5. From Russia with Love 1957
6. Dr. No 1958
7. Goldfinger 1959
8. For Your Eyes Only 1960
9. Thunderball 1961
10. The Spy Who Loved Me 1962
11. On Her Majesty's Secret Service 1963
12. You Only Live Twice 1964
13. The Man with the Golden Gun 1965
14. Octopussy and The Living Daylights 1966

I wonder if the writers are pulling from Fleming's source material at all for the story, or are using new material.

Please, please, don't lessen Craig's "rough around the edges", cool, manipulative, devious Bond with excessive flashbacks to the first film (Vesper) or any hint of emotion/vulnerability from what happened.

Hopefully this will show a "growth" of Bond as he shows what he is fully capable of.

Since this is an online/video game board, thought you folks may want to know (or may already know) that a new Bond game will coincide with the film release of Quantum of Solace.

EDIT: Interesting little discussion on the title being from a short story by Ian Fleming, though the plot seems to be unrelated: BondMovies.com

She left a number or something for him that led him to the guy he shoots in the leg at the end. He is the one who killed Le'Chiffe while he was in the process of bashing Bond's balls. He's connected to whoever the hell was behind it all.

Basically - Le'Fago is supposed to hold the big evil corporation's money for some african dudes, but he gambles it on stocks and some plot to blow up an airplane and loses it (the bomb maker being the crazy black guy at the beginning), so he holds a gambling tournament to try to win it back - evil corp forces(?) Vesper to make sure they wind up with the winnings by threatening her brother, Bond is sent to make sure frenchie doesn't win in hopes of turning him informant, Bond wins and the corp kills frenchie, Vesper plays Bond and takes the money but also kills herself and leaves him a breadcrumb to evil corp. Oh, and the cop guy they know works for the corp also and will play a part in the sequel. Yes I watched it again recently.

Pretty convoluted for a Bond movie, really.

I agree, the ending of that movie made no fucking sense. At one point he is ready to shoot her in the head and the next he is risking his life to save her. What the fuck!

Yes, but acceptable in the sense that Bond is "becoming" a 00 agent, and makes the mistake of trusting her implicitly since he has feelings for her.

It also makes for a nice change having a Bond woman be intelligent and have her own agenda as well as being something pretty to look at, though she falls for him, too.

Deeper look into Bond as a character in development, which I liked.

He set out to kill her or at least stop her from getting the money, but when it came to the point of her drowning herself he realized he didn't want her to die. He's obviously not happy with himself for that fact.

He didn't find out that she was possibly coerced until after she died. M reports that they possibly used her brother against her.

my favorite Bonds were Moore and Connery. both were cool dudes and although they killed their share of baddies, they did it with panache. when i saw casino royale in the theater i thought this new guy would keep the tradition going. I was wrong, it actually reminded me more of a jackie chan movie than a james bond film. it was a disappointment. but it was better than the previous bond flick though halle barry was in that one.

Vesper was forced to make a deal when they were being tortured to give the money back in exchange for letting her and Bond go. Bond was going to make sure the money got back to the British government and unaware of her deal, he was even in the process of resigning from MI6, they had fallen in love. If they didn't return the money, MI6 would have killed him and Vesper in the process of collecting the money. He couldn't let that happen to her either. I think the main point of this movie was to show Bond being human, almost every second of every previous film except for On Her Majesty's Secret Service he is just an emotionless tool that kills people and spouts one liners while always getting the girl. This new James Bond is actually human, he falls in love and gets revenge...

As a long time Bond fan I think it was about time they rebooted the series and departed from retelling the same Fleming stories, they are horribly out of date these days. It was getting a ridiculous with the invisible cars and Q and don't even get me started on that ridiculous laser satellite thing in Die Another Day. If they can keep the extremely unrealistic shit out of the picture the next few films could be amazing. Most of the crazy shit in the earlier movies wasn't even in the Fleming novels anyways, so this is just a different departure from the source material.
