Yea that's my assumption as well. With the asian horror flicks there's a ton of cultural stuff in there so I can *almost* see the need to make it fit Americans more but there is absolutly no reason to redo REC. I'd also be willing to bet most Americans are too retarded to tolerate subtitles.

edit - I just saw it and it game me a headache just like Cloverfield did. I thought it started out pretty strong but as soon as the lighting goes to shit and everyone is running around screaming and the camera is whipping back and forth in darkness I just get tired. Just too much screaming from too many characters. I want more stoicism!
Kinda like Pearl Harbor, i cant believe they showed that the japanese bombed the harbor in the preview. Totally ruined it for me

I would imagine a foreign language only adding to the terror of a movie.

The end is pretty killer.

This. There was a part where it seemed to drag in the middle and they were just interviewing everyone, but apparently that part was only about 10 minutes so it's whatever. But it is so good.

Yeah, most Americans (most) would scoff at having to read subtitles. I had to drag my friend kicking and screaming to Croutching Tiger Hidden Dragon because it was subtitled but afterwards they agreed it was one of the best movies they'd seen.

We're just lazy fucks. =) Most of us, anyway.

I like the fact that they contain the infestation right away. =) I mean in ever other flick they can't seem to stop people from getting bitten.

Same here.

I'm hoping this movie doesn't look like Cloverfield. I'm not really a fan of the whole "shaky, candid" camera technique. If you can even call it a technique...

I actually thought it was scarier than Cloverfield if that makes sense.

To me [Rec] wasn't so much a horror movie, just a typical zombie movie in terms of being frightening. I would say I was more intrigued than scared for the duration of the movie. Then again I did watch it on a laptop so that may have lessened the effect. I did like the Spanish version though and I expect to be going to see the American version when it comes out. I am a sucker for zombies.

I think it did the whole hand camera thing better than Cloverfield and I can't really compare it to Diary of the Dead. It used a lot of typical zombie movie bullshit, but just so much of it and so awesome. Early on you are scared because there is one mofuckin zombie upstairs, then 20 minutes later they are going upstairs with 4 (at least) zombies prowling around. My only problem with subtitles is I like to watch horror/action movies high and this makes reading for 70 minutes difficult.

Its the subtitles. Most of my family wont even look at the case of a movie if it has subtitles, pisses me off to all hell.

Starting to see the ads on tv now. It will be interesting how they did with the US version.
