Just posted this to a buddy of mine, regarding the movie ending vs. the book.

The book ending is completely fucking different.

In the book, Amy is actually the first person to die. Jeff is pissed off at her for being "weak and pouty", and she gets hammered off of tequila during the day. It's raining at night and he sees her keeled over vomiting, but they're fighting so he ignores her saying "she deserves to be dehydrated because she was stupid enough to drink". As it turns out the vine was going down her throat, and in the morning they find her dead, and Jeff mentions that they should consider eating her. It's quickly dismissed and there's a couple chapters of him dealing with his "I could have saved her" guilt, and the vine's "voice" mimicks her saying "save me, Jeff" quite a bit.

The death order is:

- Jeff (tries to run during the night/rain, gets shot by arrows, vine shoots out and drags him back)
- Pablo (people arguing and not watching him, vine eats him)
- Mathias (matt stabs him in the heart accidentally)
- Matt (dies about 10 pages after Mathias after trying to cut the vine out of himself)
- Stacy (kills herself in the end)

Hollywood. :\

Stacy's boyfriend covers her in blood and walks her down the ruins (faking to be dead). Lays her on the ground and starts distracting the locals as he walks them away from her. They shoot him, and she runs away to the jeep parked in the jungle and drives away. Then the Greeks show up. Credits Roll.

Stacy sits at the end of the path, staring at the natives, and slits both of her wrists in the book. The vine takes her, she remarks that she feels nothing but a slight sense of drowning, fade to black, epilogue the Greeks show up, walk up the hill yelling for Pablo, a little Mayan girl sees them and runs away, and that's it.

Pardon the giant run-on sentence there.

the movie was shit and from what you guys are mentioning about the book that doesnt sound much better. thank god i didnt pay for this.

The movie was indeed not very good; but what was worse than the movie were a group of black adults talking throughout the GODDAMN FUCKING MOVIE.
