I don't think sequel here is meant in the same light as it is with respect to, say, a Harry Potter movie. The idea seems to be for a spiritual and artistic sequel. I'd heard rumors of this being about Xenophon's Anabasis, about the March of the Ten Thousand. Another potential candidate -- and it's incredible that so few movies have been made about this -- is the Peloponesian War, during which a tremendous amount of translatable-to-movie awesome happened. My personal wish: do Alexander right, with the style of 300.

Edit: One more recommendation that could pretty much completely echo the themes of 300: A comic and movie detailing the final days of Constantinople. You have a heroic Emperor who died gallantly defending his city. You have the veneer of Greeks versus 'Brown People'. You have the same exact macrohistorical message: whereas the Greeks, in defeating the Persians, safeguarded the cradle of western civilization, the Byzantines, by holding back the Muslim tide for as long as it did, safeguarded Europe while it was weak and vulnerable.

I can see how that movie might have been improved by having Colin Farell fight buff, naked and sweaty.

Than again, he didn't defend so much as go to them to kill people and steal their land.. but again, whose gonna be picky

Gogogo Punic Wars + Hannibal kicking the shit out of the Roman legions (this is Carthage!), then later seeing Carthage destroyed and Carthaginian fields sown with salt after a massive Roman invasion across the sea.

The problem, though by no means insuperable, with something like this is that the three Punic Wars took place over the course of quite a few decades. Do you make a movie solely about Hannibal and the second Punic War? While this could be cool, Hannibal's end is somewhat anti-climactic: despite wreaking havoc on Italy for some years, he proves unable to get the great bulk of Rome's Italian allies to defect, while Carthage slowplays aiding him until the relief forces they finally do end up sending are destroyed. If memory serves, Hanibal ends up in some foreign king's palace until he is finally poisoned. It is only in the third Punic War that Scipio Africanus takes the fight to Carthage and razes it to the ground (I think the whole sewing the fields with salt thing is apocryphal, but who knows). It would be cool to hear CARTHAGO DELANDA EST echoing as the city is razed.

Hell, just leave his end as sort of a post mortem, but make the bulk of the movie about his battles.

I think it would be wiser to focus on one or two battles. I remember Alexander just had too much to do, and the movie suffered for it. You could go through the second Punic war and describe the battle of Cannae, then another battle, then sequel?

Also, I would like it to be more historically accurate than 300.

At least this 'sequel' will be written by Miller, and based on a graphic novel he'll be putting out long before the movie. Hopefully this time around Snyder can find a screenwriter who doesn't feel the need to add retarded magical creatures and shitty political "intrigue" back home that serves no purpose other than to ruin the pacing of the original story.

Yeah, more movies about the West fending off the East armies is just what the World needs right now. I appreciate this is History, but people are stupid and will always try to read between the lines and interpret everything with a modern-era point of view.

Maybe they can show how the Athenians actually won the war.

Just to clarify, I wasn't elaborating on what I want to see, but was rather just mentioning a very analogous historical example if they wanted to go in a very similar route.

Bearded warriors defending their country against decadent invaders with suicide tactics?

Think there might be a few

I would LOVE to see a good movie about Hannibal. He's an extremely fascinating figure and what he accomplished was incredible. Vin Diesel's supposedly been working on a movie about him for like 30 years now, who knows if it'll ever actually see the light of day.

Hannibal the Conqueror

Honestly though, for a biopic about Hannibal I'd prefer to see a more realistic movie done more in the style of, say, Troy or Alexander, as opposed to the extremely stylized 300.

They could do a movie based on Themistocles, he did so much and it would open up the whole world of Athens (political and military) for all to see nicely. It would be like cruel intentions except with swords.

I kind of hope they don't do another comic book version of greek history, 300 was enough for me. I know its a fantastical re-telling of what happened and some scenes where great (excellent even). But if they want to tell fantastic stories about Ancient Greece there is an absolute truckload of quality myths to pick and choose from.
