Blog Article | Discuss Article Screenwriter Mark Verheiden spent some time at the Comic Con talking about his upcoming projects, and he shared a few ideas for his upcoming Teen Titans movie.

IGN Movies got the scoop from the Battlestar Galactica co-creator, and apparently he's hoping to make the Teen Titans a bit darker. Kinda like what we saw (and loved) in Batman Begins. Here's what he told IGN: "It's not light and frothy ... It's not silly. I want to play the characters so they feel real to us, not like people we can't understand. And I think Nightwing is a great character for that."

Nightwing is the grown-up version of Dick Grayson (aka Robin), for those (like me) who know nothing about the Teen Titans. Mr. Verheiden certainly does seem raring to go on this project.

Nightwing is a shitty character. He's just Batman in a different costume. That said, will this be animated? If so, I hope that "darker" thing means they won't do that bullshit "look, we're just like anime, we have tear drops and huge heads in moments of excitement!" of the animated series (though I did enjoy it, despite that).

I thought it was cute, but it was a little too kiddy for me. I never read the comic books, but if it was darker, I'd much prefer it to stay true to the comic.

Which Teen Titans? I don't think Nightwing is even on that team anymore.

And he isn't really very much like Batman. He is a team player, a leader, and goes out of his way to maintain in contact with other heroes and keep those relationships going. He went out on his own because he didn't want to be like Batman and he isn't.

Not that I'm confident that I will see that level of character depth in the movie. I fully expect him to be a lame clone.

Half of the US audience that watch(ed) Teen Titans do so in the vain hope of Starfire or Raven fanservice. So anything less than tits needs to GTFO

As a wee lad, I was a HUGE fan of the teen titans, the originals. before 'nightwing', the original starfire, changeling, cyborg, etc. That was a well done series.

Sadly, most of my comic collection was stolen from my wrecked car as I was taken my ambulance to the hospital after an accident. Don't think I have any of them left.

So, we must them begin the debate: Who plays whom?

I'm munching dinner at the moment...so I will ponder this a while and report back, shortly I hope.

I don't think they've decided who will play whom yet. All they are saying is that the movie will borrow heavily from the 80's version.

Throw in Cyborg to the fray, and we are back to all those 80's goodness. Yay!
