| Looking for the scariest horror movie, plz help Title pretty much says it all. I'm a huge horror/scary movie fan and I've seen pretty much everything from The Exorcist to Dead-Alive to The Hills have Eyes (the new ones) But I'm interested in seeing the SCARIEST horror film.. that's not the fucking Shining or The Exorcist or Pyscho... classics, but not scary. Any suggestions?

| I have the remastered version of "The Thing" but haven't seen Prince of Darkness. I'll check it out. Any more suggestions would rock.

| Not sure if this is really what ya want. They're not really horror movies but theyre all disturbing. Spoorloos "The Vanishing" (1988) Irréversible (2002) Funny Games (1997)

| heh, the horror link I haven't seen before... but all movies listed (cept Prince of Darkness) I've already seen. I wish there were today's generation of horror movies that had had the same feeling as the classics... like the original Friday the 13th and Nightmare on ELm Street, even The Thing and Shining... but that might have just been cuz most of us were young and thus having more impact. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say most of us are desensitized to the point now that there won't be a horror film that would have the same effect as they did back in the days of old.

| If you are a horror fan who has seen much then I'm not sure what we can really do for you. In addition to your experience there is the problem that for a movie to be truly scary for the individual it has to hit their little personal psychological triggers. The Audition is widely believed to be damned fucking scary but it didn't do a single thing for me. Films that fucked me up personally include - The Ring The Grudge 2 In the Mouth of Madness The Hitcher The Last House on the Left Jacob's Ladder A Nightmare on Elm Street (1 and 3) Phantasm 1, 2 At Best Buy last week I picked up Tales of Terror which is 5 hours of Japanese horror short films (like 7-15 minutes each) and some of them just amazing.

| The only movie that fucked me up as a kid was Childs Play with the Chuckie dolls. I saw them again a couple years ago and it was pretty tame. Todays horror movies are pretty lame and old horror movies are very unbelievable. ![]()

| There is no internets | The fact that no one has mentioned (blah) or the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is disturbing and scary to say the least. Edit: Need to learn to read the whole OP post first. I will say though that The Exorcist is one of THE fucking scariest movies out there. I thought "The Ring" was full of shit. I would have taken that video tape to a OSU game and played it on the JumboTron. Let that bitch take care of 100,000+ people all at once. That is a lot of phone calls, even for a ghost/spirit/whatever

Also.... I'm not sure where the hell The Ring and The Grudge got it's popularity but personally.. they were both shit movies. They weren't scary, not even remotely close. Not to mention the scary little girl theme is way way way over played. But like you said, they effect certain people. But good call on In the Mouth of Madness
