| 300 Sequel Official '300' sequel officially in the works | 300 | Movie News | Movies | Entertainment Weekly Yay, at least the are now confirming a sequel, and not just another Greek story. ---------------------------------------------------- FROM VARIETY) — Legendary Pictures, the production company behind the 2007 blockbuster 300, has confirmed the inevitable: Development of a sequel is underway. The project will begin as a graphic novel that Frank Miller, who penned the comic on which the movie 300 was based, is writing. There's some speculation that it could be a prequel, since most of the characters in 300, about the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, perished at the end of the story. Thus, there's no word yet on whether star Gerard Butler will return as King Leonidas. Zack Snyder, who directed 300 to a $456 million worldwide gross, won't board the project until after he's read Miller's manuscript. In the meantime, Snyder is putting the finishing touches on the film version of another hot comic property, Watchmen, which is due to be released next March, two years to the day after 300 hit theaters. Though Hollywood pundits have always assumed that a follow-up to 300 would be in the offing, serious chatter about the project only heated up last week, when Snyder and others discussed it at the Saturn Awards. | Zack Snyder Reveals Story Details for 300 Sequel « FirstShowing.net Now I am getting confused... ---------------------------------------------------- Zack Snyder Reveals Story Details for 300 Sequel October 2, 2008 Source: IESB by Alex Billington Back in June we confirmed that Warner Brothers was looking to develop a sequel to 300. At first, this seemed like a terrible idea, but with more updates on the project, it doesn't sound so bad. IESB talked with Zack Snyder earlier tonight and got an update on their plans. Snyder revealed that Frank Miller is actually planning to write another graphic novel that would take place between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea (that was at the very end of 300). So it's actually not really a sequel or a prequel, but a combination that would seemingly be focused on the character of Dilios, played by David Wenham in 300. When asked whether he might be interested in directing, Snyder answered that he definitely would, only on the condition that the graphic novel be completed separately from the movie. He wants Frank to finish that comic before they even start on a script. Snyder won't have any input into the graphic novel and wants it to be Frank's own creation. In regards to the story, as explained, there is quite a bit of time between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea. If you recall, Dilios is retelling the story of King Leonidas at the end of 300 to a new battalion of Spartans. That battle that they're about to fight is the Battle of Plataea. My guess is that everyone only thought about the idea of a direct sequel to 300, which would be like making a sequel to Titanic - obviously that makes no sense. However, there are quite a few stories around the time of the Battle of Thermopylae that can still be told. And obviously there are numerous battles as well. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wanted to see Dilios lead those 10,000 Spartans in the fight against the Persians at the end of 300. And with both Zack Snyder and Frank Miller involved, I'm not worried at all. In the end it'll be much less of a sequel and much more of a different story set in that same time.

I'm reading American Gods right now, and it's inspired me to one day do an adaption for something of the sorts. Yall should check it out. Neil Gaiman. |

| EQ1 Apologist | Saying 300 can't have a sequel is full retard. 300 wasn't about Leonidas, it was about amazing deeds by Greek warriors during the Peloponnesian War. There were at least 5 battles during that war of such epic scope you could make an incredible movie out of it. The ending of that war would especially be epic. The evacuation of Athens to Cyprus (hundreds of thousands of Greeks fleeing the cultural capital of the Hellenistic world). The naval victory at Salamis that crushed the power of the Persians once and for all. Thematically, it is every bit what 300 was and more. |

300 was a bit different partly becuase of its graphical style of course, which will carry over either way, but it was also a little special for being on a more intimate level with scope and hero. -- I hope they can find a way to keep that if they jump back into full sized army vs army battles - or they risk comparing too closely with the battles from those other epics.
