I'll give Shyamalan the benefit of the doubt and assume that the bad lines and bad acting are there to give a B feel to the whole thing. Well... I don't think it's a good idea, or at least not in the way he does it. If you transform your movie into a vibrant homage, something that exude pleasure and love of cinema, it can sometimes work (see Tarantino's filmography for good and bad examples). If you don't, you have a problem, because it's not bad acting and bad lines that made B movies interesting, it's a greater freedom in what could be shown and said and how it was shown and said. I don't really feel Shyamalan plays that card either, even with the R rating, some chilling moments and his choice to make the movie as short as possible, dry and straight to the point.

Because of this bad choice, the movie ends up very flawed and I can't help to feel that it's a sad waste. There are good ideas in there. Shyamalan even managed to leave his religious preaching at the door to only say: "Men and science should have some humility in front of nature and its mysteries".

A waste of ideas and a waste of talent too, because Shyamalan once again makes a brilliant display of gracious film-making with a lot of solid scenes that, in a movie where lines and their delivery would allow us to suspend our disbelief, could have been brilliant scenes.

In my opinion, his stories and movies are well directed. However, they just get shittier and shittier story-wise. This is the probably the first of his movies without a surprise twist (you knew it relatively early?). Other than that, his story served no purpose and was...just fucking stupid. At least I got some entertainment from everyone killing themselves. Save your money. Do not see this movie and never see another MNS movie. He's done. The 6th Sense and Unbreakable were awesome. The rest were progressively worst. Don't give him any more time or your money.

I think it has something to do with the fact that all of his movies are based on bedtime stories told to his children (at least, that's what I heard anyways). It's a shame this is a miss, I was looking forward to seeing it.

I don't want to agree with Astrocreep because the guy puts the urrble knucklehead in turrble knucklehead, but LitW wasn't that bad. The story was so-so, but Giamatti carried that shit like a motherfucker. If your eyes don't well up at the end when he's talking about his family, you are quite simply not human. That shit's sad. It's right up there with Brooks saying his goodbye to Jake.
