As for bees vanishing in real life I am glad you posted that, I was aware of the parasite problem (in fact I thought that was the only problem hence my confusion from the movie) but I had not seen anything about a deeper problem which you touch on. | |

| Usually in this time of year around here bees are all over the place, I've yet to see one this year. Very strange. Other day I was driving on Interstate 81 and saw a caravan of 18-wheelers carrying giant crates full of bees. Must have been millions of them. Doubt they were for honey production, I wonder it was part of an effort to establish colonies. No bees is pretty grim...

+13 Internets | So I've heard from a couple of people now that M Knight intended for this to be sort of a campy B-movie, and he's said as much. Can anyone confirm/deny?!

Shock: This is a very short movie compared to your other movies, but it's only 90 minutes and I was curious about that. I know you were going for a B-movie vibe… Shyamalan: Yeah, Don Siegel's movie, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is 81 minutes, and that was my goal. "Let's get to 85 minutes. Can we get it to 85 minutes?" I really wanted it as tight as we could, but the tightest I could get it was 90. Shock: This one has the '50s B-movie esthetic. Shyamalan: Yeah, for sure. I think people think that when you put a little of that color in, it's almost like some ingredient and flavor that all they taste is that flavor in the recipe, so you have to be real careful. For me, really until this movie I never really made a scary movie, like that wasn't the intention to make a B-movie or a scary movie. All the movies are B subject matter, all fantasy subjects that you slowly get people to believe in. From Exclusive: M. Night Shyamalan Goes Green - ShockTillYouDrop.com

Whoever it is then takes them from orchid to orchid to pollinate each one, until I presume the bees get infected with the parasite and they need new crates. With that said, it is normal for beekeepers to move around the country with truckloads of bee crates pollinating orchids. From the doco I watched, the experts shown believe its only a matter of time before the parasite gets into this country. Also, in one of the articles I read about vanishing bees a possible cause could be the importation of Australian Bees into America around 2004 (thats only one of many possible causes). | The Village twist basically threw a grenade in my pants and blew my genitals apart. I was so disappointed and felt cheated that I didn't really want to ever watch another Shyamalan movie again. I gave this one a shot, but definitely was not worth spending a theater ticket on, and I'm glad I didn't (*wink*). Wahlberg's acting was so annoying. You hear this high pitch voice, and I started to cringe and asking myself, "What the fuck is he doing?". Especially, when he confronts the old lady in her bedroom and convinces her that he wasn't trying to steal anything. I thought he was about to cry or something. I wanted to slap myself to try and figure out if this was the same actor in The Departed and Wahlberg's character was probably one of my favorite in that movie. I think the movie had A LOT of potential. Has any writer ever created a premise that shows people lose consciousness and commit suicide in the quickest, most convenient way possible where ever they may be standing? The only other movie that I've seen that comes close is possibly Event Horizon but completely different motives. That is probably the scariest feeling ever that you are your worst enemy, and the infected persons will do whatever it takes to kill themselves. That is some serious shit. A world of fucked up masochism. The iPhone scene was a very, very grotesque example. I'm still trying to shake that image. Last edited by Flesseck : 06-17-2008 at 06:40 PM. |

| It could have been scary, but the way it played out was that it seemed as though anyone affected by the dastardly pollen immediately "checked out" so to speak, and spent some time standing still, then walking backwards, then killing themselves. It looked like they were sleep-walking as soon as they took in that first breath. Had they been like OH MY GOD, WHAT AM I DOING, I DON'T WANT TO DIE, WHAT THE FUCK HAND, PUT DOWN THE GUN, YOU USED TO BE COOL, WE USED TO MASTURBATE TOGETHER it coulda been more scary. I mean shit, they didn't even hurt each other, so you don't have a 28 Days Later scenario where everyone is a threat, it's just 'you catch it, you kill yourself, done.' |

| Such an overhyped film. I thought the acting was bad, the script was bad in places, unfunny jokes. As for the girl, that expression on her face? I just wanted to slap her half the time. I wouldn't say it was boring, got to admit something was happening all the time, but the lack of gore disinterested me. And the ending well... don't get me started :]

+4 Internets | As to dull moments, yes, I can name a few (anything dealing with the various and sundry relationships was at least a bit dull). As to moments in which people were doing nothing: I concede, people were always doing something -- but very few are the movies this could not be said about. As I said, a low bar. |
