I think we have an early favorite for the Raspberries.

Man I keep expecting someone to say everyone was overreacting. We went to go see this last night to laugh at it after you guys killed our hopes of it being a good movie, but it was sold out on both screens (rofl). I still can't possibly believe it's as bad as it's coming across here. And yes I've now read the spoilers since I guess I'm waiting for the blu-ray

What? Indy 4 has been a success, regardless of critics or whatever, the only movie this year topping it is Iron Man in the US, and worldwide Indy 4 is #1 this year. Comparing it to this turkey is not even a valid basis for discussion.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull = Worldwide: $592,949,276

The Happening = Worldwide: $12,800,000

are you seriously comparing a movie's box office number's that have been out for 4 weeks to one that has been out for 1 day?

See above post about how Indy did 100 mill in first weekend. The Happening probably won't even recoup it's production budget, Indy 4 has at least tripled it's budget and made everyone involved another pile of cash with which to fashion themselves new style money hats.

Also Indy has mostly good reviews, while The Happening has mostly shitty ones.

It was never supposed to make Indiana Jones money, that's such a flaw in your reasoning. I'm pretty sure Malakai was referring to it being a disappointing movie anyway, not disappointing in money made. Not to mention the Happening is rated R, so even if it was amazing it would've never touched those numbers.

Not that it will touch Indy money but Happening also had to have a much much smaller budget.

Maybe M. Night. Shamanammanam will go away now. Dude's a hack.

And he was talking about how Spielberg would be glad to have someone take 'the heat off him' for Indy 4. I don't think there is, just people who expected more for some reason. I doubt he is feeling any heat over it. Sorry that I had to use facts to refute an opinion.

Please explain how, in light of the performance of Indy 4, Steven Spielberg should be in any way unhappy?

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
It is a time of an evil empire. The leader of the empire knows the same mystical power as the group of knights he hunted down and destroyed in order to create the empire. (The emperor in Eragon is more like Darth Vader than the Emperor in Star Wars, as both were part of the knights before falling to evil).

Both open with a princess racing home with something stolen from the evil empire that could be hope to the rebellion. The empire's servents attack and the princess is captured, but not before the princess can get the object to safety, sending it to an old man who is the last (or one of the last) of a group of mystical knights with magic powers.

The object ends up in the hands of a farm boy of unknown heritage raised by his uncle by mistake.

The farm boy leaves home after the empire's servents kill his uncle.

The person the object was ment for gives the farm boy a special sword and teaches him a mystical power before he is killed by the servents of the empire.

Boy practices magic by lifting rocks (admittedly this rips off Empire Strikes Back rather than the original Star Wars).

Boy meets older gruff, older person that seems to care about himself more than the conflict between the empire and rebellion.

Boy and gruff person rescue princess who is being tortured to reveal location of the rebels hidden base.

Princess leads them to the hidden base, arriving slightly before the empire does.

Empire attacks the hidden base. A large battle commences in which the farm boy saves the day and becomes a hero by hitting the enemy's weak spot while the main villain is distracted by the farm boy's ally swooping in from above.

So yeah, baaaad movie. If you were being sarcastic.. gg, I'm owned ;p.
As for the Happening.. in the same boat really! Both are pretty terrible, (although I'd rate Happening higher), getting smashed in reviews and such as well, lol.
Where the fuck did I mention Eragon? Eragon was shit. Reign of Fire was NOT worse than Dungeon and Dragons (Uwe Boll, come on...) and the Hobbit isn't a dragon-based movie; it was a CARTOON from the 70's.

DING DING DING!

At this point in his career, I highly doubt Spielberg just wants his movies to make tons of money. I would like to think his main goal is to make a film that movie goers will enjoy, remember, and talk of fondly. In this respect, the movie fell a bit short of expectations as, on the whole, Crystal Skull got a lukewarm reception.

I was not referring to money made in any way, shape, or form. I think Spielberg is an intelligent enough man to not equate money made directly to film quality. Lucas, OTOH...

Anyway, sorry to derail!

As for spoilers, whether you like the movie or not shouldn't make a difference. Several people here hated Crystal Skull. Would it have been ok if they would have just spoiled it for everyone else?

If we go by Box Office then clearly Titanic would be the best movie of all time? is that reality?

If you factor in inflation it is still Gone With the Wind which I could handle as holding that title.

Fuck, no idea how I pulled Eragon out of your post.. I want to somehow say I saw Erumaron's name and that somehow + dragon = Eragon. I have NFI, sorry dude, but I didn't really go off on you or anything anyway! Reign of Fire was disappointing, but the dragon scenes were enjoyable.
