Choke

My all time favorite Chuck Palahniuk book starring Sam Rockwell no less. Guy is fucking money, stole the screen in Galaxy Quest every time he was on it. Thank you Jesus for not having this look like suck. Small clip with a few scenes from the movie about halfway down, nothing earth shattering but pretty sweet if you read the book.

Anjelica Huston as the mom seems like a great choice too. She can definately pull off the 3/4ths crazed, fuck-the-establishment type role I think.

I liked Rockwell in confessions of a dangerous mind. Hopefully this will be a good movie adaptation of the book.

Please don't let this fail.

I'll pay just to see how they pull off the colonial-era theme park. But I really don't see how they're going to make this one work. The sex scenes and their descriptions are the internal dialog of the protagonist and his observations are what drive his complex. They're obv going to be toned down in the movie, but you can't just point a camera at something...

so I hope it isn't literal. They sorta/kinda pulled it off in Fight Club, but of course the juicier details about the book were missing (the fat used to make the soap in the book was marla's mom's liposuction specifically, that she was saving to inject into herself... IIRC so you got more of the sense that the characters in the book were constructs of the mind)...

So as long as "The magic of sex is it's acquisition without the burden of possessions. No matter how many women you take home, there's never a storage problem." doesn't turn into some sort of clever oneliner, win. Rockwell makes me laugh, the character in Choke had little or no humor about him even though the situations were high-larious.

Palahniuk reading Choke on AudioCD is highly recommended... so much so that I'm linking it over two times below:

Well this thread does have seniority. They ought to just be merged. I only know what I've seen on TV commercials, but it looks like a promising comedy.

Went and saw this last night. Thought it was well done. Felt somewhat rushed though, but ultimately did the book justice.

Saw this the other day. Wasnt great but wasnt upset about spending my money.

Its been a while since i've read the book but i recall is being much more frantic towards the end and much more misanthropic. Sam rockwell is likeable for the entire movie. I didnt fell that way about Victor in the book.

By the end its sorta a hot topic love story.

I thought some stuff shouldn't have been left out and that the production/direction sucked. That said, I loved Rockwell - and missed him anytime there was a flaskback to his childhood.

It certainly could have been a lot worse. I'd venture as far as to say if you haven't read the book and like dark humor, you'll enjoy it.
