Maybe The Godfather-- now that was a score, and if you don't remember that tune then you probably never saw the movie. But I'm having a hard time thinking of many others (and I'm not talking about soundtracks here, because in that case, there would be a lot of awesome soundtracks I've loved-- Ghostbusters and Pulp Fiction right at the top of the list).

3:10 to Yuma was nominated for Best Score this year. I saw that movie and loved it (except the end, which kinda took me out of it). But I honestly cannot remember one single detail about the score. Not one.

In TWBB, the score was literally 50% of the driving force of the movie in a lot of parts, especially the beginning and middle (towards the end, Daniel Day Lewis took over and I noticed the music less and less).

Seriously, I am fucking flabbergasted that it didn't get nominated. It's nuts.

Bullshit technicality. Fucking parts from two tracks were from his previously recorded material (Popcorn Superhet Receiver). How that's considered the majority...

I watched all of this year's best picture nominated movies over the past week and I have to say this was my favorite. No Country for Old Men was great, but this resonated with me more.

Daniel Day-Lewis was amazing -- I can't remember the last time I saw better acting. I'll be recommending this one.

Paramount Announces 'There Will be Blood' DVD... and HD DVD | DVD, HD DVD & Blu-ray News | RopeofSilicon.com Entertainment News

The HDDVD has since been cancelled, so not sure how many fewer extras that may mean

On DVD 4/8 though, 2 days after wedding. Might have to snag it in Hawaii.

I saw this last nite in theaters, was decent although I am puzzled at all the raves it got. Seemed more a showcase for DDL (was he in pretty much every single scene?) and nice cinematography than a well written/executed movie.

I do have to ask, why does everyone rave about DDL's performance? I am no movie buff or knowledgable about acting, but every review I see says "omg Daniel Day Lewis is amazing!" Never really why hes amazing. Ok, so he plays basically a emotionally crippled psychotic who more or less despises other people (sounds like many MMO players, lol). And I guess he plays it believably, although I'm not sure what exactly a bad performance would be of that character? But what exactly did he do that is so amazing?

I didn't really connect with the character, didn't really care much what happened to him. Wasn't very nuanced, he basically flat out tells us why he is the way he is. Is this writing or the acting?

To constrast, the recent episode of Lost had my wife in tears at the end, Desmond really made me feel happy/sad/joy/etc. Or even in The Brave One, you made some sort of connection with Jodie Fosters character as she went through her transformation. Did any of that happen in TWBB? What exactly did DDL do that was so freaking amazing?

I do admire the guy irl, he seems intense and the kind of person who does exactly what he wants to do in life and fuck what everyone else thinks, and that is rare and cool. But all his characters in the past few movies seem more or less the same, brooding nutjobs who you wouldn't want to fuck with (similar to Christopher Walken or Robert DeNiro, they all basically play the same roles over and over).

It was interesting. I agree that Daniel Day-Lewis's role was good. However, it felt like this movie was intended to be 6 hours long and they played cut and paste with the script until they had 2 1/2 hours. Some of the scenes were great and then 5 minutes later a new character would appear and the story would change pace for a few. Then 17 year jump and we have a miserable old man Daniel Plainview with his disdain for people which we come to by him simply spelling it out. At the same time I can't blame the man I hated Eli from the first creepy Christan nutcase vibe. For some reason this movie just didn't feel like it tied together. The amount of people who want to sponge bathe Daniel Day-Lewis's balls is the only reason I can see all the awards being thrown at this movie.

I saw this last weekend, loved it. DDL is the man as always and that guy from Little Miss Sunshine played a good psycho.

I found the score annoying and incongruous. It was mostly forgettable except for the sudden, annoying, way too loud sudden crescendos which just screamed "hey we're being totally avant garde here with this scene / score / crazy characters omg gimme an oscar."

One of the worst scores I've ever heard. Ever.

Is there a way to ban a person from the movie house?

Moved a bit slow in some parts, but the end was so money it made it all worth it.

The very last line in this movie that is spoken by Lewis perfectly sums up the entire movie in one sentence. Great ending. Not expected, but much appreciated.

I thought that parody was pretty good. Plus his son is way hot, I'd make him go deaf, blind and mute fer sure.

I didn't notice until I read the comments, but they had a bowling alley on the TV in that last scene. Good stuff.

I finally watched this movie on DVD. I'm still processing it and trying to decide how I feel about it. Paul Dano was awesome and his character probably more scary as a person than Daniel Day Lewis' character. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the score. Not sure why so many reviewers thought it was overpowering. It seems to make every seen that much more powerful, eery, etc.
