For me my surprise performances
Jack Black in Tenacious D Pick of Destiny. hated all JB movies til i saw that one. i thought it was fantastic.

The Rock going completely apeshit evil in Doom.

Jim Carey in Man in The Moon.

Bruce Willis in Die Hard, this movie was such a complete departure from his funny lighthearted role in Moonlighting.

Bill Murray in Ed Wood.

Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting and What Dreams May Come.

He brought some chops.

Maybe I'm weird but Robin Williams has been a bankable "serious" actor for a couple of decades.

I can see not knowing "Moscow on the Hudson" as it's from around 1984 but "Good Morning Vietnam", "Dead Poets Society" and "The Fisher King" all predate what you listed by at least 6 years.

Seconded.... been a truism for a while that Robin Williams gets serious if he sports a beard and funny when he shaves.. until One Hour Photo at least that is.

Can't stand Robin Williams, such a crackhead.

Jeremy Irons in Eragon.. surprised me in how low he could go!

Resevoir Dogs - the entire cast

American Psycho - Christian Bale

Tombstone - Val Kilmer, Kurt Russel were both surprises here

Collateral - Foxx and Cruise were both surprising, since Cruise had long since become TheCruise

Kevin Bacon - that alcatraz movie where he spent a year or three in the hole. Too bad Christian Slater drug it down.

Mark Wahlberg - some indie movie about him having aids or cancer or someshit. Total left field surprise.

Cameron Diaz - Vanilla Sky - playing a psycho needy annoying depressed bitch was the one and only time she was tolerable in any movie

I see your Kevin Bacon movie with another Kevin Bacon movie! The Woodsman (2004).

I second that one. Val Kilmer in Wonderland was top notch as well.

Val Kilmer can be really good if given the right role. Unfortunately most of the time he isn't. Bacon actually made Stir of Echoes pretty good which is a pretty corny movie all around.

Mel Gibson in the Patriot. Really when you think about a lot of Gibson's roles they're pretty 'meh' movies, but he's able to make them work somehow and turn what could've been a total stinker into a pretty enjoyable film. Imagine any Lethal Weapon without him, somehow I don't think there'd be 4 of them

Val Kilmer is awsome... check Gay Perry in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Pure gold!

Just wanted to agree. I was kinda sad he didn't get nominated for anything in last samurai. What a great movie, and he kicked so much ass in it.
