| August Rush I'm suprised that this didn't come up in any searches or scrolling through the last 5 pages... Just went and saw this last night. Probably one of the best dramas i've seen in a few years and the musical selection will win awards. Plus, Robin Williams plays his character perfectly. A must-see for anyone looking for a good drama imo, although you shouldn't go into it expecting anything other than fairytale type realism. |

+10 Internets | Saw it wasn't that impressed by it, the musical parts were the only redeeming parts of the entire movie. Robin Williams character was kinda meh for me woulda been better without the negative aspects, it felt manufactured and made the conflict seem forced rather than trying to make it develop normally. The kid's parents story wasn't that interesting, didn't draw me in at all. In fact, I watched it online and had the luxury of fast forwarding it through the lazy bits. Probably would have been best served without the "Dad", although the scene in the park was good, I'll admit that. Just feel it would have been more enjoyable if it focused more on the Mom/The Kid and was 20 minutes longer. Guess as the story panned out I was hoping it would shy away from the totally unbelievable ending I thought it was going to have but it went that way. |

| Yeah, the ending was a bit... obvious. As far as Robin William's character went though, the negative aspects were necessary. He's the bad guy. All indications point to himself going through the kid's same experience at one point without a happy ending, therein making him "lose his way". You'll notice in the scene where he says, "You need to love music more than you love food, more than you love life", it leaves a bit of a contradiction for later in the movie where he shows that he loves money more than the music. |

+10 Internets | The negative aspects weren't at all necessary. They could've made the guy into a mentor like character that would've developed a report with August with music he's never had before and that's it. If you've ever seen Looking for Bobby Fischer, Robin should've played a similar character to August what Laurence Fishburne played to Josh. Instead, we get a half deranged/half insightful villain that should have had less screen time. Like I said, they tried to inject a SUPER SUPER candy coated feel good fairy tale with some semblance of conflict by throwing in a character like that, and in the end it just makes the whole story seems forced. They tried too hard, end of story. |
