+18 Internets | Letters From Iwo Jima Apple - Trailers - Letters From Iwo Jima - Trailer 1r Clint Eastwood (dir.) Academy Award nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Batman Begins”) stars as General Tadamichi Kuribayashi, the American-educated general who courageously led the Japanese resistance to the massive American onslaught of the island of Iwo Jima. ------------- Looks quite good to me, Ken Watanabe is my hero. |

| I thought this was gonna be called something like "Red Sun, Dark Sky" or something along those lines? This is the parallel to Flags of our Fathers right? Spielberg directed one, Eastwood the other? |

| Okay really tired to write a full review but just saw this movie. it's technically still in a limited release as it is only in about 400 theaters, far less than other movies at 2000+ But, this is a GREAT movie and if you can watch it, please do. This is defenitely one of the best war movies since Saving Private Ryan, and it was quite refreshing to see this from the perspective of the Japanese. In fact, of the over 600+ films made on WW2, the number of films portrayed from the Japanese side are in single digits (last i heard, it was 4 or 5). The acting is superb - Ken Watanabe does what he does best, being a badass actor. The oher main character, Saigo, is also very very well acted. With the Oscar nomination for best picture, I hope this movie gets more exposure and into a larger audience. It's a great great film and I'd recommend you all to watch it. |

+16 Internets | Finally got a chance to see it. As a film it is definitely alot better then Flags. It's also fairly interesting to see things from an alternate perspective. It also provided a fairly balanced view...you see atrocities and kindness on both sides. While obviously in the big picture Japan committed far more, they at least were able to show that alot of the typical soldiers in the Japanese army were just poor schmoes who just wanted to go home.

+13 Internets | I finally got to see this and it is just amazing. I would almost go as far to say its the definitive war movie for me since it really showed the nature of way in ways that most other films don't come close to realizing. |
