| What makes a great movie? I'm trying to figure out what it is about a movie that makes us all enjoy them so much. What characteristics does a movie need in order for you to tell your friends how great it is? Is it the witty dialogue? An exciting plot line? Is it the acting itself? For me, I love a movie with a good twist at the end. Two of my favorite movies of all time are Fight Club and Se7en. Anchorman is another favorite probably because of the quotability of it. I tend to watch a lot of movies and there are many that I walk away from astounded that it was even made into a movie from a script. I don't care much for unresolved endings (unless it is intentional i.e. waiting for a sequel). Who has any insight to shed on what makes a great movie a grat movie? |

| +Internets can now be exchanged for free original thought potions! | 1. Get a great screenplay 2. Get great actors that everyone agrees "is perfect for their roles" 3. Get a great director that really knows how to motivate his crew and get results It's not tricky, but it's amazing those 3 simple rules elude people. |

| If the ending sucks, it doesn't matter how good the rest of the movie was. Even a movie that's just average but has a great ending will be remembered. |

+16 Internets | Obviously the quality of a movie is proportional to the difficulty other people have to see it! For instance, yesterday I saw two great movies: The Castle of Sand and The Round-Up!

| Great movies are movies that take you into their world, make you believe and relate to the characters. Great movies cause you to care about the next scene, the next plot device, and ultimately the ending. As long as all these things are satisfying to the viewer, they will believe they've seen a great movie.

| Good writing and dialog with a story that makes logical sense for its genre. Nothing bugs me more.

| For me its immersion. If a movie breaks its immersion it makes me hate it. Bad acting, contrived plot devices, they all break the immersion. Dont get me wrong, I love scfi and fantasy but even within those worlds you can have your rules and concepts. If you let the viewer know what's possible and what isnt it goes a long way. |
