Dark is Rising. Oct 2007

Since I brought this up on the HDM thread.

The Dark is Rising based on the Susan Cooper book (and second of the five books in The Dark is Rising series) is coming out Oct 7, 2007.

Here's the one-sheet:

This was one of my favorite series as a kid (up there with Narnia and Tolkien) and i'm guardedly looking forward to the film. Depends heavily on the kid playing Will Stanton.

Slightly older audience than the Narnia or HP stories (back in the day it'd be tagged YA ;p) and has little in common with them (aside from the heroes being teens).

Series had five books:
Over Sea, Under Stone (first book and a little young compared to the rest of the series. Were I a billionaire and making the series I'd have done the same thing and started with TDiR)
The Dark is Rising
Greenwitch (possibly my favorite)
The Grey King
Silver on the Tree

Don't want to spoil the series but they're good enough that if you're an adult and you like fantasy you'll still enjoy them.

Spoilers are here:

Same, but not optimistic - that role calls for more acting talent than I have seen from any child actor to date.

The Dark is Rising is a great series. Silver on the Tree was very sad and tragic.

Silver was a great book and sad for reasons I won't spoil but the Grey King made me cry whenever I read it when I was a kid (and I still get a little choked up when I last re-read it last year)also for reasons I won't spoil here.

I'm sure they'll just dress fucking Dakota Fanning up as a boy and have her do it. I hate that kid more than fat kids hate diets.

Great series of books. Hope the movie(s) do(es) them justice.

omg. Yes.

Peter Jackson better be the director.

I gotta go change my pants now, and that's before watching the clip.

EDIT - I'm not 100% sold on the "modern" setting for it, after watching that. I'm not sure why, but it seems slightly disenfranchisizing (is that a word?) to me. Also, Over Sea Under Stone was book 2.

QFT. It just kept getting worse, and worse. The music made me hate it from the beginning, and then LIVE THE ADVENTURE, and "Trust your powers." Fuck, even if I hadn't read the books I'd be angry after seeing that.

They would have had to work hard to try and ruin the story as much it appears from that trailer. WTG Hollywood! Shit up another franchise please.

That trailer looked cool for kids.

7-8 year olds.
