Blockbuster Online - too good to last

They are changing the BB online so that you can't get unlimited rentals from the store. Previous pricing was 17.99 get 3 at a time and you can exchange them in the store for movies. Now that plan is at 24.99 and the new 17.99 plan allows unlimited online but can only exchange in the store for 5 a month and after that they cost $1.99. My plan is still the premium unlimited at 17.99 they might be grandfathering in old accounts or maybe waiting to change them till later. I knew a price change was coming though because I have been getting about 24 movies a month with the current plan. When I would go into the store there was always a box full of the online movies, I am guessing the stores have been losing tons on the plan.

Unfortunately if a deal like this is way unbalanced in terms of favoring the customer, the business will go broke and the service won't be available anyway. Nobody likes price increases but I'd wager that you'd appreciate being able to watch 24 movies a month for 24.99 rather than however much it would cost to rent the movies individually (a la pre-Netflix era).

I'm sure when they rolled it out, they were willing to take a hit to help drive down Netflix sales. They seemed to achieve this goal because Netflix posted their first ever loss a quarter or so ago. I know my account has been grandfathered so far. I received an email informing me other people's monthly fees had been increased but mine was remaining the same.

Oh yeah, I'm not complaining as I said I knew it was too good to last. Even at 24.99 it is still a good deal you could easily do 12 movies a week.

some stupid chick used one of my gmail accounts as her bb online email and its hilarious to see all the shit she rents and how fast it turns around. She gets a dozen movies a week using this drop-in-store "scam". And its all crappy chick flicks or black films. I can definitely see how they would want to limit it based on retards like her.

This was a good deal at $18/month with in store swaps.

But even at that price, after I hit up most of the new releases and old flicks I wanted to see (2-3 months), it became a chore to make sure I got my money's worth every month, ESPECIALLY with the long term wait bullshit where I waited 2 months to get HD Apocalypto and it still is in my Q.

I don't see the value for me anymore at $25 a month, but I don't make it a habit to watch a movie/day so I might have been an atypical Blockbuster user.

Well they have different pricing plans, and still have the unlimited online at 17.99 just limited on trade-ins.

Yea, its called Netflix!

Seriously, I have rarely had to wait on anything... seen Apocalypto in BluRay the week after release and never had account throttling to my knowledge.

Fuck BB.

My girlfriend has the 17.99 plan for 3 movies in the mail + unlimited store movies when you turn them in. We probably watch about 10-15 per month so its a good deal.

The online selection is way better than the stores. I am currently going through every Academy Award for best picture and all the high-rated old Sci-Fi movies.

Same here, then I trade in for new releases. I'm gonna start doing seasons soon.

As for blu-ray, I don't have a player but I see the blu-ray disk online. Are they treated different?

I love netflix, but then again I recently moved to the boonies so theres no Blockbuster for atleast 60 miles so it works out nicely. Oh and I never wait for movies ever.
