I will not mention my distaste for everything to do with Whedon and Firefly.

I will however put large amounts of money down that this will be direct to DVD.

I introduced one of my friends I played WoW with to Firefly, but he didn't even get to the third episode before he called it crap and lost interest.

I introduced it to my girlfriend and created another Firefly zealot.

Guess it's a love it or hate it, but I definitely loved it and agree that it would be awesome if HBO or somebody picked it up for another go around...

I loved the movie, never watched the series. I have to say that Serenity was everything I wanted Star Wars ep 1 to be, of course with a MUCH smaller budget.

who cares what format it's in, it could be on VHS and i'd still buy it.

I netflixed the first DVD. After the first episode I drove out in the middle of the night to buy the set.

Everyone in this thread should care whether or not this goes to theaters.

How many sci-fi movies went to the big screen last year?

How many fantasy? How many of those had a large budget that wasn't an already well established IP?

The answer is not enough.

I WANT this to go to the theaters and make good money but it won't. Why? Because us "nerds" are content with it just coming out on DVD as long as it caters to our own needs but will never be a big enough market to really do the special effects that we want and love etc etc....

Well, as it was pointed out in the article, the fact that it was originally a tv series is what makes it so acceptable as a direct to dvd version. It puts in the same category as the BSG mini series, the farscape movie, and presumably the SG1 movies, all of which were enjoyable. If anything I expect it to have a better story since it won't suffer the need to appeal to the wider audience or spend time explaining the backstory.

I never saw firefly. But thought serenity was very meh. I just don't understand the fascination with the movie.

Yeah it was better than SW 1-3 but that's not saying very much.
