Looks pretty good and entertaining I think.

Did Kevin Smith get to be in it?

Supposedly this got panned really hard at a film festival a while back, and has been heavily recut since. Pretty much every critic said it was sophmore director syndrome.

It was Cannes, and the major reason for the panning was because apparently critics have small bladders and can't sit still for a 160 minute long movie. The 3 part graphic novel prequel was excellent, so I find it very hard to believe that the movie itself sucks.

I've been waiting for this goddamn movie for what seems like forever now so I'll go see the recut version (which is still over 2 hours long) in the theater, but I really hope that someday the 'real' version is available like the director's cut of Donnie Darko was. I would rather see Kelly's original vision than a movie studio's idea of what the average American retard will be willing to sit through.

Oh I fully expect it will be a love-it-or-hate-it movie when it comes out. I just thought the criticism it received at Cannes was pretty weak and poorly justified.

How they set up the movie so that people who haven't read the prequel books will be able to follow along at all is the real mystery to me.

I expect a love it or hate it movie also. I wasn't aware of there being prequel books, got a link?

Amazon.com: Southland Tales: The Prequel Saga: Books: Richard Kelly,Brett Weldele

Southland Tales

Sadly the official website was never completed after the movie got stuck in development hell, so there will probably never be as much background info on it as there was on the Donnie Darko site. They also cancelled the hardcover edition of the collected version of the prequel graphic novels too, and I skipped on buying the individual books since their release because that's what I was waiting for... All because of a few retards in France who had to bitch about a movie being ~3 hours long.

Southland Tales

Apple - Trailers - Southland Tales - Trailer

New movie from Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko). Looks pretty interesting. Cast is fairly young, non big-name actors outside of the Rock but I typically don't go to movies where he's the lead, but am interested in this based on Kelly and the Trailer.

Synopsis:
Los Angeles, 2008: The city stands on the brink of social, economic and environmental disaster. Southland Tales is an epic story set over the course of threedays that culminate in a massive 4th of July celebration. A large ensemble cast of characters includes Boxer Santaros (Dwayne Johnson), an action star stricken with amnesia, Krysta Now (Sarah Michelle Gellar), an adult film star developing her own reality television project, and Roland Taverner (Seann William Scott), a Hermosa Beach police officer who holds the key to a vast conspiracy.

I want to be interested in this, but the cast bothers me.

In the trailer it was like a combo of deadly blows as they rolled through the stars at the end, each one progressively worse.

Are you using the "Search this Forum" tool directly above the topic list? I have never had a problem getting the correct results from a search. (3 hits for Southland Tales, for example)
