The one major problem for me watching the movie was Superman's fucking cheekbones. Were they really necessary? Fucking annoying to look at.

I think even the comics projected more human emotions/depth/etc. and the characters didn't seem like cardboard cut-outs. The better anime's out there are leagues ahead of this crapshoot.

The doomsday and super man returns series of comics was one of the few I actually read. I'm saddened at how much was removed and shortened for the movies. The way he gets his powers back is also very different if I remember correctly (pretty sure someone had to die or something!), not to this lacking all those superman wannabe's.

Good thing I never got into JLU (I pretty much stopped watching all American cartoons that wasn't in the adult comedy category like ten years ago though so that makes sense!), that version sounds pretty horribly different from the comics.

God damn, this makes even medium quality Anime look godly.
JLU was so much better than this piece of trash. The JLU cartoon had so much better voice acting, art and story. This movie was actually one of the worst story lines in a comic book (other than maybe Parallax) and I don't know why they took it and made a movie out of it. If someone is wanting good animated DC stories they should dl JLA and JLU (in that order). The cartoon gets alot better after episode 10 or so.

Yup, its the cartoon network version. IMO, this is the best ever American made cartoon. Lots of complex story arcs, with developing side story arcs are in this cartoon. Just keep in mind that the first season kinda sucked. Also, when the show went to JLU, it got a little bit convoluted with all of the new members, but there still were story arcs. Why this show was cancelled after a five year run is beyond me, considering that I think the ratings were still pretty strong. DC opted to switch to younger cartoons, so they ditched this show and instead did "The Batman" and "Superman and Legion of Super Heroes." They probably thought a youger demographic would be more $$$, but the writing for the new shows was no where near as good.

the jla/jlu animated show can be found on some torrent sites, and its deffinitely worth checking out.
while season 1 deals with introducing the characters, banding them all together, season 2 kicks it up a lot with the backstory on all of them. personally i think it goes majorly downhill for the most part in season 3-5 when they added 50 more superhero's to the roster and tried to develop the series around them all. a lot of good episodes involving brainiac/the corrupt goverment out to destroy the jlu/doomsday, and just as many crappy ones like teaching 2 warring 3rd world countries the hardest battle fought is chosing not to fight. still great to go through however

I still think they should have turned that Kevin Smith script he and the other guy made all that time ago into a movie; although the cameo based on the 'spider story' is just as funny.

Sillyness aside, i totally dont understand why they needed those cheekbones, nor why they needed other voice actors. But this isnt the end of it -- i do believe they have more movies instore for us? A la what Marvel is doing with the direct to DVD movies. I think the next one that is coming out is about all of the golden age heroes? Dont quote me on that though.

By the way, JLU is still worth checking out. Its pretty amazing to see the amount of voice talent they had for all of those additional characters. Makes me so sad that DC has totally switched to shows geared directly to the younger audience.

I thought there were better storylines/works to adapt tbh

Birthright would be cool

Superman for all Seasons would be interesting in the right hands

etc

Wow, no wonder I liked the cartoon. That is an impressive list of actors. That is a first time I looked at the list. Rofl, I had no idea one of the guys from Mad TV was Green Lantern's voice.

Honestly, they made Clark look like he has HIV/AIDs. I'm not kidding. It almost looked like he was losing skin, rofl.

I lived next to a comic store through middle school. Here's what I remember about Doomsday

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
IIRC Doomsday was the result of a Kryptonian mad scientist's attempt to create the perfect being. After being killed an untold number of times by the harsh environment, Doomsday evolved into an unstoppable killing machine, and wiped out everything on the planet. At some point he was contained and fired into the Earth's crust. Most of Doomsday's past is explained in the story line where he show's back up and Superman has to fight him again. Ultimately, he's too strong and Superman has to resort to trickery in order to best him for good.

Lol Phil Lamarr is everywhere -- he is the Scott Mcneil of american cartoons, but does a way better job. Just take a look at his imdb voice acting resume! He's getting up there with the original Megatron.

Here's some info on the other direct to DVD movies coming out from DC.

I actually enjoyed the action in the Doomsday movie but the plot was pretty stupid.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
here is superman trying to keep Metropolis safe and what does he do he destroys every building in his way to stop Doomsday and if that wasnt enough he flies DD out to space and returns with a superduper body slam back in the middle of friggin metropolis. wtf superman you caused a massive shockwave probably equal to a small nuclear bomb. how the fuck can they rebuild from this let alone the human death toll? then like 2 months later everyone is at the superman memorial and the citizens are all happy and the city looks pristine

I don't mean to rag on you, but you realize this is like the "norm" when it comes to cartoon comics, right? We've all seen it in practically every cartoon comic TV show since the dawn of time.

It's just accepted as a fact that all skyscrapers are empty of people, cost nothing to replace, and can be replaced near instantly should the scene call for it.

Yeah , like in the Godzilla movies, i mean how many times can they rebuild Tokyo and how come everyone isnt dead by now.

But still,Superman is supposed to be keeping Metropolis safe, which he says a dozen or more times throughout the movie. Everytime he tossed a badguy through a structure he makes himself look like an idiot.
