+7 Internets | Flaming Lips I didn't know where else to post this, but it falls under the entertainment heading I wanted to let everyone know that the new Flaming Lips album, "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" is fantastic. Also, the new Guided By Voices album "Universal Truths and Cycles" is great too. Sorry if this doesn't belong on this board, but I'm sure some of you would enjoy discussing music |

+7 Internets | The Flaming Lips were sorta famous in the early 1990's, when the song "She Don't Use Jelly" was in the Top 40 (I was as intrigued as any 12 year old could be with the topic )They fall under the Indie rock music category I suppose, but "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" reminded me of a Radiohead album. Despite that, I would put this album in a category by itself. If you must hear something before you buy it, download the song "Fight Test" and it will give you an idea of the vibe of the album. |

| Wow this is kind of wierd this was just brought up. I'm a HUGE Moby fan so I was watching his MTV show last night. The Flaming Lips video for "Do You Realize" (maybe Don't You Realize) was on, and it was incredible. I'd never heard their music before, but I'm going to go and get Yoshimi today. |

| As Bronyaur has mentioned, The Flaming Lips are a rock band that have been around since the early 90s (their first mainstream album having been released in 1991). Their sound has changed a bit over the years, from a more standard 'indie rock' theme (often imitated by Weezer and the like) to a Radiohead vibe. It should be stressed, though, that "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" is not a mere Radiohead rip-off album. It is a great work in its own right. "Yoshimi" is a concept album, ostensibly about a Japanese schoolgirl's fight to save Earth from an invasion of robots. Obviously you can read more into the subtext if you wish; for now, however, just sit back and enjoy the music. ![]()
