okay, after a few more movies and a series that completely changes our minds and shows what a real filmmaker and visionary jj is, and especially after jj comes out and apologizes for this movie, then your counterpoint is a point.

Haha... When Roddenberry apologizes for Star Trek, the Motion Picture I'm sure he will.

Funny too, the best critically received film (and fan favorite, I might add) of TOS, Wrath of Khan, Roddenberry didn't even have creative control over.

But I'm sure you hated that one since it wasn't "true to Gene's vision".

roddenberry wasn't the only positive force in star trek, but his was the guiding force. all his work wasn't great, but a lot of it was. if jj's world turns out to be half of what gene's was taken as a whole, i'll come back and give you a cookie or three. but now from what i've seen, not even cautious optimism is.. logical.

This could turn it around for Star Trek

each trek is totally different, TNG with a shakesperian trained actor at it's lead is totally different than shattner. and to say theres one unified vision of star trek is disengenius. and whats the most liked TOS movie anyways, wrath of kahn which is as close to an action movie and the old TOS movies came. same with TNG first contact is the best one. what they do with movie 2 if/when will solve alot of this debate of quality/preference.

You don't get it. The serious fans were supporting a franchise for decades that was exceptionally nerdy and frequently looked down upon and now have, from their perspective, been shown the door. Why? To enable easier mainstream access.

TNG and DS9 were fantastic. First Contact was fantastic. Everything else is part of the reason Star Trek was dead until this reboot happened. Recent Trek was just plain bad. Thank your lucky stars it has another chance.

The DVDs you have are either good television or they are not. A rebooted franchise is not going to make my TNG/DS9 collection any less awesome to watch once a year or so.

You come to a thread there the vast majority of posters in it support and enjoyed the movie and you are the in the huge minority or posters that did not like it. Understood we got it, you hate the movie and all it represents.

Your 20 other posts in trying to defend said minority opinion do come off as rather trollish as you are trying to get a rise out the vast majority of posters in the thread that DID enjoy it. what do you want, a thread of full 'this movie is great' posts? what kind of discussion is that? i never shitted on anyone's right to like the movie. i simply asked them to be honest with what they liked (action, t&a, no plot). that's all. and with regards to gene, yes it is important that people realize the type of euphemisms they use and the words that shit outta their mouth. because some people take things like star trek pretty seriously and consider them important. you got a guy that devoted the majority of his life to his idea for humanity; and he put that into a show for people to watch. that's a visionary. now, you got another guy who wasn't even a fan of the damned ip doing a popcorn and chuckle t&a flick on it and people here and elsewhere are saying that the revision is somehow on equal footing with the original. it's not, and it's disingenuous to say it is. you don't go telling a chess player that candy land 'has different qualities than chess but just as good'. it's not true.

anyway, i'll respect your authority i guess. i'll be done here a 2nd time because apparently people can't handle my opinions.
