| Yea, I read about this a couple days ago. Seems interesting, but im still skeptical about it being entirely animated. I know WETA is behind it so im hopeful.

| Live action would be fine. Animation, in general, fine. Photo realistic animation -- wtf are S&J thinking. The comics aren't photorealistic. * * * Is Asterix far behind?

| This is the worst premise for a movie possible. The super-computer that I'm developing is giving this project a 0.00004% chance of success. If this movie were a stock I would short it with all my money. And the worst thing is I know how it went down. "Hey boss, we want to make a movie about TinTin, that old comic about the boy and his dog." "Well, that's just about the shittiest idea for a movie I've ever heard." "No wait, Peter Jackson, who proved LOTR was a fluke by making the awful King-Kong and world-class hack Steven Spielberg are going to direct it." "Well, than make it 3 movies, and let's give them $300 million by god."

| I was a fan of the tintin books as a kid too, but I'm in no way hyped about these movies. I think this sound stupid, and anything but epic. But hey, I've been surprised before. Hopefully they'll be good.

| Tintin is fine for a movie (the books all had solid plots) but making it photorealistic animation is just uber-bizarre.

| I'm surprised Tintin is even known in America. Or are most people talking here from Europe? Tintin is a pretty good "comic" and it cannot go wrong with Spielberg+Jackson. Well, it could only turn out better if they somehow managed to get Tarantino on board. The Asterix movies are indeed pretty bad. The one by Alain Chabat is ok, if you're into that kind of (french?) humor. But while Chabat is a trasonably talented guy, he got totally hindered by the Asterix / Uderzo watch dogs. They and their lawyers want to protect the Asterix legacy, spirit, atmosphere or something and Chabat couldn't do the movie he wanted. The (2?) other movies are not even watchable. Anyway, my point is that the Herge family / Casterman (or whoever has got the rights) might fuck it up, and enforce their opinions on Jackson&Spielberg. That would be a shame. |

| All the Tintin books save Tintin in America and Tintin in the Soviets have been available in the US for a long time. I think both of those holdouts were finally released here. Edit: Favs were Secret of the Unicorn/Red Rackham's Treasure and Destination Moon/Explorers on the Moon and, now that I am reminded, King Ottokar's Sceptre. Today all they have are the silly 3-book sets (which split Unicorn/Treasure into two different books). Back in the day had the large single books.

| Did the comics have an epic storyline? I can't imagine watching anything being directed by both Spielberg and Jackson that doesn't turn into an epic.

Have to admit tho, that is a character with adventures pretty much designed for the big screen. As for the Asterix movies, if you don't understand french, don't even think about watching them. In their original version they can be somewhat enjoyable, but they really are heavy handed with the french humor, it's just fucking terrible when translated.
