+5 Internets | Hollywood is in a crusade to make adaptations of all that was retarded teenager stuff in the '80s in an attempt to seduce the new crop of retarded teenagers, the people nostalgic of the time they were retarded teenagers and of course the people who remained retarded teenagers. Coming up next: Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors! And why not Silverhawks!

| Which just shows how behind-the-times Hollywood is, since Family Guy and Robot Chicken have already tapped that market AND driven it into the ground. "Huhh huh, guys, what did we like as kids?" "Uhhhh, Voltron!!" "Ok, what can we make Voltron do that'd be hilarious?" "Uhhh, how bout....he gets SERVED!! OMG!" And if you ask nice, I'll tell you how I really feel. |

+3 Internets | This movie was the shit. I kind of figured the Wachowski brother and sister were hacks based on their post-first-Matrix direction, but Speed Racer made me jump back on their side of the fence. I don't understand critics and I'm sad it's doing so poorly. This is the kind of movie that you see when you're 11 and then re-watch 15 years later to remember how awesome movies were when you were 11. It moved well, it was written well for what it was trying to be, and it was ballsy to spend $120 million on something that looks intentionally cheesy. It all just worked, I thought, and if I was younger I would have peed my pants all the way through. Bravo Wachowskis, eat a dick critics.

+5 Internets | The key issue here is that critics are not 11.

On another note I really don't like it when hollywood redo (what I think) are very good movies, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for instance. Thinking back I might of enjoyed the remake if I had never seen the original. And lastly, yeah alot of critics have to realise that when they see a movie they have to view it as if they are part of the intended audience, or at the very least put a disclaimer with the review saying how they came up with the review. Oh and Speed Racer is not out here in Australia, but I am seeing it for sure. | |

| I saw it tonight and I actually liked it. I was rather surprised at how good most of it was. Even the kid, most often sure death in a movie like this, was solid and worked well, except possibly for the "warning for the cootie-intolerant" interuption. |

| I had to stop smoking during May to get a job, so I have been hoping it will still playing in imax a couple weeks into June. I wouldn't see it any other way.

| I snuck in to see this last week again when narnia opened and damn this movie is still awesome a second time. they really went out of their way to close up any plot holes too. the one guy in the rally race his car explodes going off the cliff, in the very small corner of the screen they show him floating down in a chute so as to say they didnt kill him either. |

+3 Internets | Rise from your grave! Just seen a cracking copy of this and so I finally read the thread (I bow out of most threads a month or so before the film is due as I hate spoilers and some of you cant help yourselves) and wow, this film sure polarised it's audience. Personally, i thought this was one of the most entertaining "stupid" films I've seen in a long time. I had low expectations coming into this as the early trailer made this look just plain daft, but somehow seeing what was pretty much live-action F-Zero racing (I've never seen the original cartoons so that's the only frame of reference I have) came across as less cheesy than i expected and in places quite thrilling. I can only imagine what this would have looked like on the bigscreen, I lost my 1080hd setup when some dogwanker burgled me and nicked my 50" tv and imac that connected to it and I had to watch this on a dodgy old 42" plasma on a converted xvid to dvd but even that blew me away. Disappointing to read how little money it made, hope it sells well in the retail channel and I'd probably buy a bluray copy once I get sorted out again. We need more imaginative nonsense films like this made!
