Trying to find an old sci fi deep sea alien movie

I'm trying to find a movie about these deep sea super intelligent aliens that are going to wipe out the life on earth because we are so destructive. They are causing tidal waves and a group of scientists finally goes down deeper than anyone ever has. They find these super intelligent aliens at the bottom and one of them has a conversation with them.

Does anybody know the title of this film?

Thank you.

You mean the Abyss special edition by James Cameron?

Probably one of my favourite movies of all time. The normal version is little ghey though.

Sounds like Abyss minus the whole "wipe out humans" part. But then again, I've only ever seen the 'normal' version. That one made the aliens out to be good guys.

Definitely not The Abyss, I have The Abyss. This movie wasn't as intense as The Abyss, it wasn't scary / thrilling really at all, just kind of an adventure movie. I do remember at one point they saw this weird machine looking/pink light thing that they thought was a fish, and later found out it was a probe of the aliens.

Also, like I said, these aliens were going to end all human life because they were destroying the planet. So to do that they were creating massive tidal waves that were getting bigger and bigger.

I dunno man that sounds exaclty like the abyss... complete with massive tidal waves. In the end the aliens 'froze' the tidal waves, scooped up Ed Harris and the deep water habitat they were working out of and surfaced with the whole lot, displacing the navy ships that were supplying them. Not sure if that was the alternate ending or whatever but there were these giant tidal waves involved with shots of the waves off san francisco etc.

hehe that still sounds like the abyss, albeit a looser description of it.

In the normal version there is no tidal wave scenes and no references to them. It was cut out for time purposes.

In the special addition they were restored along with news reports about the situation, and better scene between harris and the aliens that shows what they are doing and why. It really changes the whole tone of the movie and it probably the best case of a special edition movie improving upon the original, at least until the lotr movies came out.

The movie you might be refering to could be Sphere with Sharon Stone and Dustin Hoffman, based on a M. Criton book. It had a plot along those lines, though my memory might trick me. Though there was some pseudo-psychological bullshit along the lines of the Alien technology taking on the appearence of the team-members personal fears & hopes, etc.. and I don't remember tidal waves.

Well, not a movie that is worth remembering I think

Wikipedia is your friend, you should know it by now. Here's a tip.

You look for a movie similar to "The Abyss". So you go to the "The Abyss" article on Wikipedia. Then you go to the "See also" section, because most articles on Wikipedia have this section. For The Abyss, the "See also" section has a link to : List of films with similar themes and release dates - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia So you follow that link. On the new page, you do CTRL + F, and enter "Abyss". This will lookup the "Abyss" string in the page. When you do this, you will find the information you need, which is:

Quote:
The Abyss, Deepstar Six, Leviathan, The Evil Below, and Lords of the Deep were all released in 1989 and are underwater thrillers involving explorers discovering strange new (and in most of the movies hostile) creatures in the ocean.
Glad to be of assistance. Please learn from this experience.

the abyss special edition is the one you want.

and they were not ALIENS(from outer space that is)...they evolved in the deep sea and are exploring UPWARD.

Pretty sure they are aliens who developed on another planet in conditions similar to the very deep.

Having watched it more then a dozen times I can assure that it does. Not to mention referring to them as NTI's. They also mentioned that they've been there a while, as opposed to being there always, somewhat ambigious I admit.

From the script:

INT. MESS HALL 154

The discussion, still in progress.

ONE NIGHT
You think they're from down there originally?
Or from... you know.

She jerks her thumb toward the ceiling.

LINDSEY
I think they're from 'you know'. Some place
that has similar conditions... cold, intense
pressure. No light.

CATFISH
Happy as hogs in a waller down there, prob'ly.

INT. CORRIDOR/SUB BAY 155
