| I was disappointed in the first one, and expected a lot more from the guy who brought us Haute Tension (yea, yea, I know, the ending blew ass... just turn the movie off at the 88 minute mark and it's one of the best horror movies ever made). There were some good parts in Hills, and the gore was impressive (as expected, seeing as that's what Aja is best known for). I thought it kind of dragged on after a while though, and I kind of hated everyone in the family that was getting preyed upon and really only felt bad for the dog. At least that led up to the best part, the second dog getting even. As for the sequel... we've got a director whose claim to fame is a bunch of commercials and a Korn video, working off a script written by Wes Craven and his son. I guess maybe if Craven had done anything worthwhile since Scream 2 that might inspire some confidence, but unless there's one hell of a glowing review on Bloody Disgusting tomorrow, this one's solidly in the download/rent column for me. |

| There are two token hot chicks in the National Guard group that gets attacked in the sequel, and so naturally there's a rape scene (according to the MPAA rating). Apparently someone thinks that's one of the defining moments of the original which must be preserved in each of the new movies. Or something like that. |

Anyway, the first movie was pretty good. It was a remake, a command work and a backwater horror movie. Did you expect revolutionary filmmaking? It was perfectly decent. Fun, good acting, hot actresses and very naughty cannibals. Better than the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake (which was very decent too.) So much Angst... Now, the sequel... You'd better drop your (apparently) super high expectations even lower, obviously. Aja had at least one movie behind him. Anybody knows the new director? Not much on IMDB. The trailers look ok, but... Cannibals are stealthy and stuff, but to take on 20 military guys with M16, there will have to be a lot of stupid in the movie. Wait, did you hear that? Hmm? Bah, probably nothing. Hey, I'll be right over there, behind this huge rock, taking a dump alone 1 kilometer from the camp. Don't expect me back before a while, k? | I liked a couple of scenes from the first movie. The very beginning of the movie, when the scientists or whatever are testing the radiation levels and that big ass 7-foot tall mutant just starts owning everybody with a god damn pickaxe. The scenes with that wierd dude. The one in the whellchair whos head like melted down the back of it. Isn't that the same costume used in the "Rubber Johnny" aphex twin video? YouTube - Rubber Johnny But I'll definitely be waiting on THHE2 to hit blockbuster, the first wasn't good enough for the theatre.
