The Number 23

Anyone seen this? It looked interesting from the previews, and I've liked most of Jim Carrey's "serious" movies. Thoughts/reviews?

It got terrible reviews. It was directed by Joel Schumacher. Both bad signs.

Interesting premise though.

I thought it was pretty good. I wasn't totally blown away, but I'd say it's well worth the money to go see it.

Oh ya, that's a fun part of the movie too: freaking yourself out afterwards, seeing 23 pop up everywhere. My girlfriend's sister was at our party the other day after having just seen the movie, and counted that there were 23 people in our place. After my GF and I saw it, we went to Vons and had mistakenly picked an open bag of Potato Cheddar Soup (delicious), and the guy at the register told the bagger to get us another. He couldn't remember which aisle it was on, but he told the bagger it had to be either 2 or 3.......dun dun dunnnnn!

dude. same thing. It goes back to what that guy says, if you fixate yourself on the number, you'll just start seeing it everywhere. At the same point, it really can be done with a lot of numbers. The movie definitely freaked me out for a couple of days, then other stuff that happened that took my attention away from it. I liked it though. I thought it was a pretty good movie. Not amazing, but I really enjoyed it. The thing with Jim Carrey is, the guy can't be completely serious and he isn't. He has to have a certain a comedic or psychotic personality for him to work well and he does both here.

I was pleasantly surprised and I'd actually recommend people go see it merely for the possiblity that it could really freak you out.

Just saw it tonight. Was better than I expected, but it started pretty slow.

As soon as the movie ended my GF and I got in my car and she goes "omg, look" and across the street there was a bank with one of those digital clock/temp signs and it was flashing 32 degrees. 23 backwards! Im sure Ill find a million references to 23 at work tomorrow.

My friend who works box office worked out "23 tickets for the number 23" has exactly 23 letters in it. That's far and away my favorite.

Except that numbers aren't letters, they're digits. Call your friend a dumbass. Then when he pulls out the whole "well on a computer it works" spiel, whip out "The null terminator for a string makes it 24, and 24 is 42 backwards from Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, so clearly Jack Bauer is god." Don't even begin to mention spaces at all either... you don't want him to start a cult.

While your friend thinks you're clever, we'll just be laughing at him around the world for actually believing this crap.

Theres a lot of theological reference to the number 23 as well.

within a house of five two shall rise up against 3.

Five Pillars of Islam, ect ect
