| Shooter Apple - Trailers - Shooter - HD Based on the book Point of Impact by author and Washington Post film critic Stephen Hunter. It's about Bob Lee Swagger, a retired Vietnam War-era sniper who is brought back to stop another sniper who has come to the US. Double crosses and other plot twists ensue. The best part of the books comes from Hunter's knowledge of guns, shooting, and his depictions of violence. He bases his main characters around real people who have actually accomplished some of the 'impossible' feats of shooting that occur in the books. Think Ludlum (Bourne Identity), only much more realistic. The movie is directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars Mark Wahlberg, who is much too young to be a Vietnam vet, so my guess is that will be the first of many plot alterations. On the plus side, they appear to have done their research on snipers well. The CheyTac M200 (.408 rifle that's accurate out to 2km+) is featured prominently along with the other gear used to calculate shots. Personally I can't wait for it next month. I didn't even know the movie existed until a couple days ago because of the title change. Hopefully it does well, because every one of Hunter's books would make an excellent movie, and the studio has already optioned Hot Springs, the first book (and Hunter's best) in his other series about Bob Lee's father back in the 50's. +29 Internets | Sounds cool, I've always liked the sniper archetype, ever since Clarke/Chavez in the Clancy books. But was anyone else hoping that this was a sequel to Happy Gilmore, based around Shooter McGavin? |

| Yea, I'm afraid they will take it a bit too far from the books for my taste (I said the same thing about the Bourne movies too). They moved him to Montana instead of Arkansas and made him a lot younger, which alone wouldn't be a real problem. I just hope they don't turn him into some sort of super agent computer hacker ninja, because in the books he's just a moderately tough dude who can shoot a rifle better than just about anyone else in the world and who understands the tactics of a battlefield. He got fucked by the gov't once and rightfully doesn't trust them again, and that's what keeps him alive, not being able to hax0r teh Gibson or any other superspy stuff. As long as they didn't forget that while writing the movie, it should still end up good. That and they need to leave the book's twist intact; it was really well written. | I seriously have no clue what people dig about snipers (other than.. you know as a villain). Thats easily the most cowardly, wretched and despicable way to fight a fight if there ever was one... except chemical and biological warfare possibly. I'll take an honest frontline grunt unafraid to face the enemy over a sniper as a movie hero any fucking day. |

+31 Internets | So you're telling me that you, being the grunt, wouldn't like having man watching your back like a sniper? Someone who sees a lot more than your grunt buddy next to you does. I wouldn't call them cowards. It's great fuckin' strategy. Just like Bowmen were for hundreds of years. |

![]() This is just speaking in terms of movies, of course. I have no idea about how it is in real life. As for this movie, it looked good till halfway through the trailer. It looks like a DVD rental to me. | |

| Great movie. Nothing at all like (and nowhere near as good as) the book, but I ended up not caring. It had all the things I look for in an action movie, and was actually a whole lot more violent than I expected. The political message was a bit heavy-handed, but since I agree with what they were saying it didn't bug me too much. They didn't go overboard with the superspy shit (just some overuse of explosives) and the scenes in the trailer which looked like he was some sort of hillbilly computer hax0r were actually of another character doing the computer stuff. Really hope it does well, because they're supposed to film Hot Springs next and then hopefully Pale Horse Coming--Hunter's two best books, about Bob Lee's (Mark Wahlberg in Shooter) father back in the 50's. 8/10 Last edited by Vorph : 03-23-2007 at 06:08 PM. |

| Caught this last night, enjoyed it a bunch. I pretty much agree with everything Vorph said.

+13 Internets | Great rental/DL. One of the more enjoyable movies I've seen lately. Never read the book so I have no comments regarding the translation to film. Great action movie and one of the better sniper films... though I love them all. |
