| Box office success is also a factor in whether the academy nominates a movie. Not that they'll give any blockbuster an award, but to bomb as badly at the theatres as "The Fountain" is a strike against it.

| I cleared something up in my earlier post, I did see Pan's Labyrinth, just not the awards show. And now that people brought up the fountain, I can live with it not taking home a shit ton of awards (even though it's probably in my top 3 movies for last year), if only because it's understandable how some people wouldn't care for it that much. But assuming I understand what cinematography or art direction mean, the fact that it wasn't even nominated in either category makes me sad on the inside. And on a side note I tried to go see Iwo Jima at the theatre on Sunday because of your all's suggestions, but apparently they stopped showing it everywhere in Louisville the day before . Music and Lyrics wasn't really disappointing at all though. |

| Since I'm not a lazy tard like you, I actually looked up Letters from Iwo Jima. It had a worldwide gross of $60,001,188 and cost $19 million to make. The Fountain had a worldwide gross of $12,851,119 and cost $35 million to make. Hopefully I won't have to explain these numbers even to someone as limited as you. So the fact that Letters from Iwo Jima was nominated in fact does not prove the point you're trying to make. Sorry Fag n Cheese, maybe you would like to try again?

+58 Internets | Oh so now the Academy is nominating based off commercial success in Japan? (where 42 of that 47m foreign money came from). Clearly the words of a smart man. edit: oh wow I just looked at your profile, you're 29... now I'm sad for you. Sorry, it was never my intention to argue with the handicapped. What I said earlier, for the illiterate out there, is that The Fountain bombed at the box office. And to compare it to a movie like Letters of Iwo Jima, which ended up making money, is an unfair comparison at best. It's the odd mixture of critical praise, support from the public/box office success, and the X-factor(promotes multiculturalism, historical significance, about the holocaust, etc..) that gets a movie nominated. The Fountain is missing 2 of those 3. I thought it was a pretty good movie personally. Quote:
I hope I'm still here when I'm 40 so I can hear what you have to say when I haven't changed by then.
