| Inland Empire Inland Empire is art-house Steven Lynches new flick. With a running time of nearly three hours, I must say the most notable part of the movie is how ridiculously long it is. I don't know what it is about, but it explores areas of human interactions including lust, love, fear, jealously, and degradation. And Lesbians. Definitely lesbians. My take on the film is this: It had some very witty moments, the cinematography and imagry was beautiful, and the acting was excellent, but the length almost put me to sleep. I was overwhelmed by it all. It was a bit too arty and slow for me at times. Scratch that. Most of the time. So I ask you this: Are you an intellectual hipster who will suck Lynches dick, or are you a common yokel who will bash the movie for being too 'arty'? |

| I'm a common yokel who enjoyed Eraserhead, Elephant Man and fucking WORSHIPS Dune? Before you decide to pitch a bookburning for his 'arty' works remember that David Lynch was the genius behind Dune, Blue Velvet and TWIN PEAKS. You can bash David (or Steven LOL) Lynch all you want, but his influence on every working filmmaker today is undeniable. I'm gonna see Inland Empire on the 27th in a limited run at the Music Box Theater in Chicago, if you're going to be in the area and are a David Lynch fan, you can still get the tickets to see David Lynch show up and discuss the film in person during the premiere. |

I doubt you'll see anyone elaborating some fondness for the story or anything, but you have to admit, Lynch's bleak, haunting post-industrial photography STILL influences people today. Hell that was 5 years before Blade Runner. | |

| The introduction to a collection of Frank Herbert's short stories is an essay by him discussing the production of the Dune movie. In short, he loved Lynch. He said that Lynch was one of the few people that really understood the film medium and how to talk through it, like Herbert did with novels. And let's be honest, if he's good enough for Herbert he's good enough for me. |

+4 Internets | I just watched Lost Highway, like 3 times, trying to interpret that. He's not for everyone but I definitely like his movies. I want to see this, but I don't know a single person who gives a shit about David Lynch. |

+5 Internets | I am pretty sure that if you asked any cinephile to name the five american directors in activity that they feel to be the most important, 90% would have Lynch in the list. To be facetious I should say "still on the list" considering The Straight Story is a heap of garbage and that Mulholland Drive only hints at how great the TV serie it should have been would have been.

+4 Internets | Just to share, I'd never seen Mulholland Dr until yesterday. I had a fucked up migraine so I stayed home from work, slept until like 1 and then my netflix shit showed up, got Brick and Mulholland Dr. I am all about some crazy lesbian scenes, don't get me wrong. But I fail to see how this is his best movie, like many people say. I liked both Elephant Man and Lost Highway better. Not to say it isn't good, and didn't make me think, it did, just not nearly so much as Lost Highway. Well I've never seen Wild at Heart or Blue Velvet either so I plan to watch those soon, but to me, the story in Mulholland wasn't nearly so surreal, it was pretty much a straightforward story about a (possibly) sexually abused girl and her getting jilted in a relationship and her career. Maybe it's so much more and I'm just missing it, seemed pretty straightforward to me though. |

+4 Internets | I was wanting to check out Wild at Heart next, heard it was ok, but I think I will get Blue Velvet instead, you aren't the only person to say that. Have to get Bound before that because dammit I require at least some kind of softcore porn with my thinking material. |
