+32 Internets | They showed Shadow Chronicles at the Film Festival. I think it was just the first 2-3 episodes they showed. As a Robotech fan, I was happy to be watching a new series, especially on the big screen. But, it really felt too clean, and some of the characters were really americanized influence of anime. All the chicks have huge boobs in a bad way. |

+53 Internets | Bought it last night. First the bad... Bad: The computer animation sucked. Actually, sucked isn't a strong enought word. Remember that one computer animated show on called "Reboot?" Yeah, it was ten times worse than that. I can't hammer in how awful it was. Some of the dialogue was pretty bad, too; not sure what audience it was going for: old-school fans or new fans. Good: Awesome to have the old characters involved with the same voice actors from the original series. Hearing Rick Hunter and Scott Bernard voice new lines was $$. The plot that takes place after the final Invid series was actually pretty inventive (if not now confusing considering all the books that have been written since then to make up for the "missing" time). Final Thoughts: Despite the SHITTY animation, I would really like more. I think everyone has their "nerd" cartoon that somewhat defines them as a child. For some, it was Transformers, GI Joe, Voltron, etc. For me, it was definately Robotech. I remember watching it on TV as a kid when I was...what...8 (1984)? It was the only cartoon that I can remember at that age where people actually DIED (R.I.P Roy). I was absolutely mesmerized by it. It is what first turned me on to Anime --> Voltron, then DBZ, then more sophisticated "snob" anime, etc etc. I don't regret spending the money at all. Now, not that anyone cares, but in case anyone from Funimation, Carl Macek (sp?), et al are reading this... eh, hem... FINISH THE FUCKING SENTINELS, YOU FUCKING BASTARDS. I want to get my nerd on, dammit before I die. Watching the Regent die on TV will make a part of my geek soul rise up to virgin heaven and rest in peace.

| Carl Macek originally came up with the story for the US TV series (blending together 3 unrelated Japanese series), Jack McKinney (pseudonym for two authors who co-wrote the books) wrote the entire 21 book novel series. There were many continuity differences between the TV series and the novel series, and Robotech 'purists' think the novels suck. However, the books are actually pretty darn good. The End of the Circle is one of my favorite novels just for all the badass stuff that happens and getting all the generations of characters together. |

+38 Internets | I always thought that the books were quite a good compliment to the series, and personally I didn't notice any continuity problems. But that's probably because I only ever read/watched Macross, Sentinels, and End of the Circle. I imagine things got really convoluted in Masters and NG because of all the kids of characters running around, people coming back into the picture etc. |
