Blu-ray loses, HD-DVD wins, Sony has learnt nothing

HD-DVD won because the PS3 flopped, HD-DVD players are half as expensive but offer the same visual quality as Blu Ray players, and Universal floats HD-DVD exclusively.

Sony is so fucking screwed, they'd be dead from an entire year of disasters if the PS2 wasn't keeping them afloat.

This makes me happy. I never really got rid of my old VHS tapes in favor of DVD (couldn't tell you why). Stuff likes this makes me hopeful that I can finally start building a library again of new stuff; porn included of course.

Still think I'll hold off a few more months though just to make sure.

Blu Ray is still newer and less produced. It won't always been the more expensive media (by as much). The porn industry probably will factor in more than Sony is giving it credit too but just because that's the way the VHS/Betamax race went doesn't mean that this race is over. ESPECIALLY since the PS3 has only been out for about 3 months and the first HD-DVD/Blu-Ray combo players are just now hitting (so people aren't scared of investing in a media that goes nowhere).

Why does Sony even care what goes on Blu-ray? I can't see the PR flak they'd get from family groups as anywhere near approaching the profit windfall porn gets you.

Anyway, I've been saying this from the start, but the true reason Blu-ray will lose the format war is because the name sounds homoerotic.

I'm pretty sure it has not been cracked. Some DVD software encryption key was cracked, but the actual HD-DVD format was not. Unless something has happened in the last few days?

Aren't there already HD/blu-ray combo drives being produced? That's all it will take to make the whole thing moot. Well, maybe it will matter to MS, Sony and some Hollywood corporations, but the saavy end-user who wants his choices will have them.

Last I read, LG is the only company to have one so far. It debuted at the convention a few days back. IIRC the price tag was set to $1,200. Also, I think you can't play any of the HD-DVD special features on it.
