**SPOILER**

The guy in the blue suit (Spike) and the guy clipping the bonzai tree (Jet) are two bounty-hunters. They've got a spaceship and they fly all over the solar-system chasing bounties. It sounds pretty simple and unoriginal for an anime, but I promise you the series is anything but that. The way that it is done makes it completely different from any other anime. Just watch the first episode and you can tell that it is definately not a "Stereotypically badass bounty-hunter w/ a dark past chases down evildoers and kills them" anime.

The two characters in the clip used to belong to a crime syndicate. They were very close at the time, like brothers, often fighting together (as you see in the flashback). I'm not going to tell you exactly what happened, but Spike is no longer in the syndicate and now, whenever the two meet, they are at each other's throats

Watch it!

(and no, he doesn't die)

Seeing this clip, no wonder someone would think it is vampire related

It's a pretty good exemple of the creativity of anime btw. The use of music, the changes in pace, the dichotomy between the action and the dialogue or the narative structure of the climax.

I think the intrusion of almost experimental techniques into the mainstream is something pretty typical of the japanese pop culture (at least when it comes to movies, anime and manga).

Cowboy Bebop

I never really enjoyed Cowboy Bebop. Sure, the music and animation were good, but I thought the character development was sort of weak.

Now FLCL on the other hand, is just excellent =P

FLCL (Furi Kuri)

FLCL aka Furi Kuri is a Gainax production. (Same company as Eva) Different director though. Anyway, its 6 episodes long, coming soon to be released in US on DVD.

Kind of weird and hard to understand, but its got great music, great characters, and a fun story. Short and sweet, I like it =)

Here's some links.

Etc, etc.

It's good stuff =P

Gainax productions are just in their nature wierd. A new series they will be doing was given a title and the producer told the writer to come up with a series. Gainax really has to no clue to run a business, but that isn't important.

FLCL is by far the weirdest anime I can think of off the top of my head. Also the first done solely on computers. It is all animated on computers, say bye bye to cel animation.

FLCL is also one series you can't just watch once. I've watched it like 3 or 4 times now, and I've only in the last run through noticed all of the little details.
