The Hobbit

I looked back 12 pages and couldn't find a thread.

Sad news. Very sad news indeed.

From everything I've read Saul is a useless fucking prick.

Now if A) This means they don't do The Hobbit at all, that'd be great. I don't think it would be right if they didn't use Ian McKellan and Ian Holm(wtf @ Ians), but at least Holm is a bit too old for the part now. But if it means B) They're doing a Hobbit movie with a different director and possibly different cast, fucking weak.

I have a feeling the movie is going to be made (both I should say). Who they are going to cast seems to be up in the air. I say this because the amount of money they have spent getting the rights is just too large. I'm curious who owns the rights to the left over sets. I would have to assume New Line. If not, it won't be the same not having the old Hobbiton back. Also, due to the apparent time constraints, they will probably rush to re-create it and it just won't turn out nearly as good.

And especially from what i'm hearing of New Line wanting to do a two parter? I don't know what they have in mind. Splitting The Hobbit into two movies would be rather suck, and if they did put all of it in one movie, they are talking of doing another movie about what takes place in between The Hobbit and Fellowship, which is, well, not much.

From what I understand, that is what they plan to do. The first movie will be based on the Hobbit, and the second movie will be based on what "happened" inbetween the Hobbit and the Fellowship. I would have had much more faith in the second movie if Jackson was attached, but now I have lost all hope.

But what did happen between the two? I've read my fair share of extra Tolkien, and I can't recall anything major or interesting happening in that time.

Now, if they wanted to make a whole movie concerning the Battle of Dagorlad, and the events before that...well that would just downright own.

Holy shit Peter Jackson lost a lot of weight. I mean an impossible amount short of going on a meth binge.

Million dollar a week Hollywood personal trainers must be some kinda wizards.

I think I read somewhere that he lost a lot of it while filming for King Kong. They rushed to finish it and put in 14-16hour days and crazy shit like that.

I'm sure the movie will be fine, seeing as they will probably hire a director to mimic what was done in LoTR instead of doing his own thing.

Just make movies about pretty much the entire history would rock. First age, second age...lots of awesome shit to be told/seen.

But as for the time between the Hobbit and LOTR...the only really significant shit I guess would be Aragorn and Arwen meeting, Gollum meeting Shelob, Denethor and Theoden taking charge of their respective lands...um...Saruman becoming corrupted.

No real 'action' takes place, just pieces getting put into place. Nazgul getting sent out to occupy fortresse, Gandalf/Aragorn meeting and becomming friends, etc...etc...just random shit really.

I guess you could make a movie focus'd entirely around Aragorn since he did quite a bit of shit between the two stories, but 90% of it would have to be made up.

I just know one thing. Whoever does this Hobbit movie BETTER get some Beor action going on. That guy rocked, and to those who've only seen that animated Hobbit and haven't read the book, Beor whips some ass in the Battle of the Five Armies.
