+4 Internets | Its not getting shut down, its just New Line is going to have to pay him the money they owe him instead of being cheap bastards. Threatening to shut down the new films is just leverage in the inevitable settlement.

+9 Internets | While I agree it is an extremely slippery slope for the director to "create" a bridge-story, I for one wouldn't mind getting to actually SEE what Gandalf was doing when he was gone for 90% of The Hobbit book. I know he was off to battle Saur.. uh, the Necromancer! in Mirkwood, but I'd like to actually get a chance to see that! I'd like to see a battle of powerful sorcerers that doesn't involve breakdancing.. |

| The sad thing is even if they do manage to do it awesomely, and they won't, it'll get ripped apart because there's no way they can make it conform to everyones idea of what 'should' happen, or what they expect to happen. It's the problem all movies with a pre-existing franchise face, x1000 because they have to make everything up from scratch. Of course I think it will genuinely be terrible anyway, so it's not a huge issue. Hopefully at least the Hobbit will be good. Ffs why can't they just leave well enough alone. |

| Yeah I read before where Ron Perlman was being considered for the movie. Apparently by that last link, it might be confirmed. He better be Beorn or something. Hell, Beorn better fucking be in that movie. |

+7 Internets | I would love Perlman as Beorn. I could also see him playing Bard. |

+65 Internets | I'd be willing to bet Perlman is being cast as Smaug's voice, if anything. As far as Chris Tolkien, I don't blame him for going after Newline. They've tried to fuck pretty much everyone involved in the LOTR trilogy, it's not big surprise they owe him tens of millions of royalties. |

| well the bridge book as mentioned in the crankarious old man article will be made up (hopefully) mostly from the smilirilan and tolkin reader tales- so there is some cannon to work off of.
