Grave of the Fireflies - Setsuko (A MUST-SEE!)

Yes, it's sad. It is also one of the greatest films of all time.

This is a scene from Hotaru no haka (Grave of the Fireflies). The clip takes place towards the end of the movie, when Setsuko is dying of starvation because of WW2. Seita is her 14yr old brother. Setsuko herself is 4yrs old.

I'm posting this with the intention of linking it to the "heartwrenching" thread. Be warned! While I believe this film is a must-see for anime fans and laymen alike, it is not for the weak hearted. I cried twice just watching it encode, and I'm not one who cries easily.

I'm not sure if this scene will have the same effect as when you watch the movie as a whole, but when I watched it again, I wasn't thinking back to what had happened before, and I still cried, so perhaps it will still retain it's potency.

I have watched the whole movie twice now... didn't cry once.

Overall, I'd give it a 2/10... thought it was pretty lame.

I watched this a few years back on the IFC ... It came on late one night and it really gripped me. One of the most depressing movies I have ever seen...

Saw it back in '92 - it is a must see.
Haven't had much luck finding it on DVD. Not much luck with downloadable movies either. My sources suck
