| IMO I am a martial artist. I started taking it when I was 7 and am now 25. I do a variety of martial arts ranging from close contact (Jun Fan, Judo, Silat, etc.) to mid range martial arts (Boxing, Savate, etc.) to long range martial arts (Kali, Muy Thai, etc.) That being said, I love watching REALISTIC martial arts. Jet Li in Lethal Weapon 4 was realistic. Jet Li in everything else sucks; doing things only possible with strings does not excite me. Jackie Chan is great because even though it takes him x number of takes to get a scene right, you know for a fact that he actually did it. The old Chinese films and the like tend to have the superstars as these superhuman martial artists with skills that are simply not possible. Some movies, like the Matrix, are enjoyable, because they tell you it is not realistic; that is part of the storyline. This movie is an example of what I hate. |
