+10 Internets | I think they did a great job on the look of Ultimate Thor. ![]() And even the story of him and their use of Loki. Lyrical really needs to get the fuck over it and stop crying about it being retcon. It's a new universe, launched just so they don't have to stick to all the old canon. It's not changing the story because it's a different story. Of course you know all this and your nerdrage blinders just make you ignore it.

Seriously, are you guys that like Ultimates about 12 years old? 'Cause that is who this universal retcon is aimed at. | |

| Just curious who you think the original comic books from the past 60+ years were aimed at?

| It is not a retroactive continuity. The Marvel Universe is a multiverse and stories are told about those other universes. Boo hoo. Ultimate FF is good. Really good.

| The comic community is like a giant boa constrictor wrapped around three or four ideas. You've got these characters who are 60 years old, and their stories have been exhausted so completely that they've got to come up with an alternate universe to do anything new. Marvel and DC keep it going because these are the characters that sell, so it's the buyers that are keeping it going. The companies are just capitalists and if they weren't they'd go out of business, so it's the community that's the annoying thing here. I'm talking to you, the guy who went out and bought every issue of Spider Man Meets Frankenstein's Bride-- you know, the version where Mary Jane is a transvestite who had three children because of a science experiment that impregnated her with alien DNA and now she needs Peter to bring her 1,200 pounds of fluorescent lightbulbs every day so she can feed on them and it's a big conflict for Peter because stealing is wrong? If you're coming up with an alternate universe to do something new with a character, maybe it's time to make a new character. |

+19 Internets | Most of the canon origin stories are garbage. Simon, Kirby, Lee, yeah they are childhood heroes because they created great worlds, for 12 year olds. Have you ever actually tried explaining the backstory of some of these comics to someone who doesn't know? Seriously, explain the origin of the Fantastic Four to someone and maintain a straight face. It's ridiculous. Not that I even read the ultimates, I don't have enough time for comics anymore and it makes me sad. Eveything I read about it sounds like a good thing though, getting more people involved with the classic heroes. Except for Captain America dying, that is bullshit. IMO the alternate universe thing should be used to avoid publicity bullshit like that, killing off heroes as an excuse for foil embossed holographic die cut covers. |

Whoever play's Thor on the other hand, will need to put in weeks of physical preparation as well as lots and lots of acting days on the set to shoot stuff running around in a viking costume.

| Thor would be a nightmare role IMHO. For at least 2-3 years you would have to sport a physique like those dudes in 300,and thats not the easiest lifestyle.

+1 Internets | You don't know much about actor's methinks. A nightmare role in that sense is one where you have to emaciate yourself like Bale in The Machinist or Emile Hirsch in Into the Wild. Get paid ridiculous dollars to stay in shape and look like a literal god? That's a dream job. |
