The Godfather

Ok..I'm not sure if this movie has been brought up as a thread or not because I know it kicks sooooo much ass, so sorry if it has..but here's what I have to say reguarding this movie.

I'm curious, what is everyone's favorite episode in this three piece awesome story? What I mean by episodes incase you don't know what I'm talking about is Godfather part 1, 2, or 3, not portions or events that happen in it like some people mistake it for.

My favorite one is part 1..because it has my favorite character - "Sonny" Santino Corleone (Michael's brother who beats the shit out of his sister's husband for hitting his sister. Also, just because he is a plain don't-take-shit-from-anyone badass in the movie

), it introduces all of the characters, it has some intense scenes(remember when the fat dude who came to Vito's daughter's wedding who said he has loyalty for Vito got stabbed in the hand and strangled to death in the bar? Also when Vito got shot down and we all thought he died? And also when Sonny gets shot down in the car when he was on his way to possibly kill his sister's husband? etc etc etc.), the eerie music, the drama of the story, the mood of the movie is intimidating, the lighting and camera angles and camera shots that are taken, and everything else along with mainly the absolute genious most kickass story line I've ever seen in a movie all together in one masterpiece - The Godfather, make for a hell of a movie that you would not want to miss.

So anyway..just curious. What is your favorite episode of the Godfather movies?

As much as I loved the first, im going to say the second just because the backstory was incredible to me. I just loved it.

And to think someone somewhere was comparing Road to Perdition to these movies .. feh!

Godfather 3 doesn't exist.

That movie will always only be known for having the WORST casting ever in a movie.

I almost pity Andy Garcia in that movie. He was riding high until that miscast. Eh, what an embarrassment.

Godfather 2, for one reason:

Marlon Brando.

His hysterical performance in Godfather pissed me off. I still can't see that film without crying and laughing at the same time.

Miscast? Andy Garcia was one of the things I loved about The Godfather III. He was also nominated for an Oscar as well as a Golden Globe for his role in the film.

The only thing that REALLY hurt The Godfather III was Winona Ryder getting sick and being replaced by Sophia Coppola. While she didn't ROYALLY suck, she definitely... well... sucked

if you have the godfather trilogy on dvd, I highly recommend listening to the director's commentary. you understand how much pressure coppala was under while making the movies. From week to week he was constantly under the threat of being fired.

I think the biggest thing to blow my mind about the whole thing is that he was 30 when he directed the godfather 1

Also listening to the commentary gave me more respect for the godfather 3. Untill i had listened to his reasoning, I just didn't like it because of the massive deviation from the book. (if you read the godfather, there is this whole understory about Sonny having sex with that girl in the first movie, because he's got a - huge cock, and she's really loose- part of why they're drawn to each other) It's kind of hard to really make a movie about that and have it reallly detract from the base story). so in order to preserve the mood of the original movies, they chose to modify the story a bit in order to make it more palletable.

Now i have a question here for the real finatics of this movie.

When the Tatalliga's/Soltzzo (excuse me if i have some of these names mispelled, i haven't read the book in a long time) kill Luca Brazzi (knife in the hand guy), when he is pretending to be unhappy with Don Corloene. I think they suspected it was a trap.

They baited him with an offer nobody would refuse - 50 thosand dollars to start with - and would have given it to him too IMO, if he accepted. But because he didn't jump right at the offer - he steps back and grabs a cigarette - they know it was just a bluff.
And that's when they decide to kill him. I think that is my favorite scene in the Godfather 1.

No, she ROYALLY sucked. I wasn't clear in my earlier post and I apologize. I meant Sophia Coppola, not Andy Garcia. I was referring to Andy having to uncomfortable scenes with her. Al Pacino as well. I havn't seen the movie for a while, but one scene sticks in my mind. It's between Pacino and Coppola. I can almost read Pacino's mind.

"WTF am I doing here?"

It looks out of place. Somebody looking natural, acting to almost immersion. THen Sophia Coppola missing beats, blocking and completely failing as an actress.

I can't watchh GF3. A pity, Andy Garcia is one of my favorite actors.

I would have to say Godfather 2 for the backstory. I especially love watching young Clemenza, and them stealing the rug.
