Their relationship and the implied future relationship gave me shivers of happiness(that soon died inside of me because of Ledger). As for future villains... my guess would be Catwoman. In the first movie he dealt with the Scarecrow, and this movie was an extension of that 'crazy' mentality with the Joker. They need to give Batman a new angle of challenge. With his girlfriend recently dead, Catwoman would present the perfect temptress/comforting/justifying presence.

I think a Riddler / Catwoman combo for the next movie would be pretty appropriate. Riddler represents a more cerebral enemy and would force Batman to come into his own with his intellectual ability (which he hasn't in this incarnation yet). Riddler's motivation would be to basically prove how much smarter he is than Batman and the previous villains and that intelligence and order are more powerful foes than the chaos of the Joker.

Meanwhile Catwoman strolls in to pull on his heart Strings to fill the role of the missing love interest. She could mostly be stealing from organized crime so that Batman has to further delve into what is really criminal. Also this adds to the struggle by forcing Batman to prioritize his crime fighting, because he can't do everything, and turn his attention to the more menacing villains that his presence has created furthering his fight with the ultimate question of whether or not he can ever really win or if he is just making things worse for Gotham.

Throw in some Scarecrow and Two-Face lurking in the shadows scheming and you have a very intense "things spiraling out of control" city for Batman to deal with, which could allow for him to entertain the idea of a Robin (but way less gay than previous incarnations and fitting in the new darker universe).

The only real squabble I had with this movie, and it's very minor:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
That thing where he was on the Bat Pod Bike thing and drove up the wall to turn himself back around? That was kinda dumb.

But other than that, amazing movie.

Great movie, definitely go see it.

Kind of glad Rachel is done. I don't really like the character to be honest and the fact that she's out of the way is a good thing.

Its kind of tough to put a new villain into the series now because they're keeping the villains more "believable" and not so much fantasy. Joker, Two-Face, Scarecrow make sense as they are because they're just fucked up mortals, and the humanizing of Raas Al Ghul was slick too. Batman's abilities can be skirted off as "technological advances", but its tough to promote villains like Poison Ivy, Bane, Mr. Freeze, and Clayface.

Amazing movie, lived up to my expectations. I thought Heath looked great in the trailers, it's just a taste to how fucking good he is in this movie.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
few minor complaints: the cell phone in the city shit was pretty gay and the movie kind of dragged when Heath wasn't on the screen. Batman's voice seem a little more awkward than normal too but the humor with him and Alfred is top notch as always. Glad they killed off romantic interest. Two face looked good, wish he had done something a little more interesting as a villain

When Heath was first announced as the Joker, almost no one, myself included, expected him to do what he did with this film.

Just reading the first pages of this thread shows you how little most people expected of him in this role.

He basically dug down so deep for this role it killed him in the end...a tragic but truly amazing performance. He put Jack to shame...

Scarface would work in this 21st century batman as would the Riddler and Hush. While Catwoman would be the natural 'girl' for the next film I would rather them go a different direction and bring in Zatanna. They could do it as was done in the Animated Series where she's a performing magician and they never (before Justice League) showed her actually doing real honest-to-goodness magic.

The thing is that whereas one can believe that Iron Man and the Hulk are in the same movie marvel universe, there's no chance that the Christian Bale Batman and the Brandon Routh Superman are in the same universe. Christopher Nolan has grounded the series too firmly in the 'plausible' category to believe that you have a Superman running around somewhere.

My gripe with the film can be summed up with one word..

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
sonar!?

Which isn't a gripe.. Just thought it was kinda silly.. Nolan is so damn good that I often forget that these are comic book movies!

Dogtown and Zboys? Maybe THAT was the documentary. I can't remember.

Suck me, James. :P

It was different. I may be one of the few that doesn't think he was the best villian ever. I mean, even something like the original Darth Vader taken in context would have a strong claim to that title.

Was it better than Nicholson's? For this movie it was, the tone and setting is completely different. It was damn good, nothing wrong with it at all and I can easily see an Oscar nomination come from it.

Few gripes, some of which were mentioned and I wasn't thrilled by the final outcome but movie is still 9+ out of 10.

Fucking epic all the way around.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Having the mafia goons fight to the death over who gets to join was just way too fantastic.

Also, "I'm...not...crazy" was just too perfect.

Edit: Fixed your broken (and showing) spoiler. Thanks for that... -Braen

Ledger was totally amazing. The difference between his Joker and Nicholsons in the first one is that I really believed this Joker was fucking insane. He was riveting everytime he was on screen, amazing.

p.s. pencil
