Honestly, searyx makes two very very good points. As far as coming in late, if you absolutely MUST see the movie in it's early days, or at the 9pm show on saturday night, then I guess that's the price you pay. But if you have no problem seeing it(or if you're *able* to) on wednesday or sunday afternoon, coming in late shouldn't be a problem. Would you rather, actovus, that the theatres take the commercials out, and pass the money that they would have made onto your ticket prices? I'm pretty sure I don't want to pay $30 for a ticket, just to avoid some commercials. Some of them *are* funny. I love the axe effect commercial :P

Again, I have to completely agree with searyx as far as turning around and asking someone to be quiet is concerned. If someone is talking, and you absolutely must hear the grunts coming out of vin's mouth, or whatever, ask them to be quiet. If it's really bad(some little kid being very very loud, as long as it's not a kids movie), you can even go and get one of the big bad usher men to save you. I have to admit I do my share of talking(I don't think I've made more snyde comments during a movie than during XXX, but believe me, *everyone* was.), but if someone ever asked me to stop I'd say "no problem, sorry for bothering you", and shut my mouth :/

Little prejudiced, aren't we? Just because someone is bald, or has a bandanna doesn't mean he's going to shoot you if you politely ask him to keep quiet. Try wording it like this:

"Excuse me! I hate to bother you, but I can hear every word you're saying. Is it possible you could keep it down a little bit?"
You're reaching. This scenario never happens. And trying to paint recism into this is laughable and ridiculous.

I will tell you why you're wrong. For one, if they removed commercials, ticket prices wouldn't be 30 dollars. You want to know the truth? Ticket prices have always gone up as budgets in movies have gone up. With your logic, tocket prices should of been lowered because of the added revenue, but instead they INCREASED. And no, not a single commercial is FUNNY. You wanna know why? Because I will not be duped into accepting commercials in a movie theatre because they are funny. This aggression will not stand man! Your logic on the whole ticket price thing is flawed. No matter what way you cut it, if they take the advertisements out, that revenue would have to be made up elsewhere. Chances are, you would be that elsewhere. I can't really argue with your last paragraph, as it doesn't really make any sense, or at least I don't understand what you are trying to say.

You missed my point, as always actovus. One day in movie theatre land, CEO movie-man said "We need to make X dollars more, how can we do that?" Now, if we accept that said money WILL be made one way or another, would you rather have the ticket prices doubled, or have the commercials?

And stop simply saying that people are wrong when they say they find a commercial funny. It's a matter of opinion. If you don't find them funny, that's fine, but I do, fortunately for the rest of us YOU do not get to govern what I think, actovus.

You should be locked up and ejected from the theatre for that. Seriously. The movie blew. If people were talking through it about dumb crap, im sure they were getting more entertainment out of the convo than the movie itself.

I am seeing a trend here. You're expecting the people that these movies cater to shouldn't see them. It's like expecting people watching the latest Jason movie not to laugh out loud and shout at the screen "DONT GO IN THERE!".

Anyways, where I live, the ads are just as bad. It's ALWAYS 15 minutes of ads/previews, but they start them 10 minutes early now. It's better than staring at a red drape, IMO.

My favorite...

My favorite part of this thread is when Searyx started getting defensive and said how awesome he thinks movie previews are, when the original poster wasn't even talking about previews...

and then, when someone pointed that out to good old Searyx, he doesn't even acknowledge it.

As to your second point. I would love to see turn around to some big tatooed skinhead/gangmember and tell him to be quiet.

Little prejudiced, aren't we? Just because someone is bald, or has a bandanna doesn't mean he's going to shoot you if you politely ask him to keep quiet. Try wording it like this:
And also, Searyx.... whoever posted that first qutoe didn't say "someone who is bald" or "someone with a bandana". They said a skinhead (which , obviously, is an alternative term to a Neo-nazi), or a gangmember. Nobody was stereotyping ("prejudicing") anything except you.

Now, i'm not saying such people are often at movie theaters... but the poster does have a good point. It's not always a good idea to ask people to be quiet. Even those who dont look like "skinheads" or "gangmembers" might not take it so well. Some people are just like that.

I started to get defensive? Where?

The bit about liking commercials was a miscommunciation that didn't warrant an entire post to reply to.

If anything shows how high your idiocy rates, Ishalim02, this does:

Quote:

Stereotyping and Prejudice are two different things.

However, I enjoy many of the commercials (The current Mountain Dew commercial comes to mind) and the ones that I don't like, I don't mind.

You wanna know what funny is? Funny is this:

Quote:
What is so facking funny about them? Why do you laugh at the most cheesy peices of torture known to man? Let me enlighten you. They are not funny! It never fails to have some idiot cackle in glee at A COMMERCIAL!..anywho..let me catch my breath..)
followed by THIS:

Quote:
I was watching Reign of Fire and loving it
"That's what's fuckin' FUNNY! *bug zapper*"

Well, the advertisements/previews/movie shorts are only going to last longer and longer as months go by, the last time I went to the movies (about 1 month ago, dont recall the movie, didnt really care just wanted to see what the new theatre was like) the total premovie clips time was ~19 mins, about 1 year before that it was ~8.

Wouldn't surprise me if by Christmas of 2003 if the total time of the advertisements/previews/movie shorts are close to 30 minutes.

The only thing that I don't like about all the premovie stuff is that they always show things that are the EXACT OPPOSITE of the movie you are about to see. I'm sorry Captain Cinema, I didn't come to a horror movie with the mindset to see previews for Spy Kids 2, I came for some good old fashion blood and gore.

But those aren't as bad as the movie clips. Previews generally last from 1-1:30 minutes, ok fine, you can get a couple of those in in 10 minutes and some of them might be good and "ontopic" I guess you could say, but don't play some retarded 10 minute movie short about Timmy the Teddy Bear and His Brother's Underwear () before a movie where people are getting mutilated.

...and that's all I have to say about that. =/

Why bother arguing with Searyx? MORE THAN LIKELY he dislikes the advertisements also...but he'll take an opposing stance just to get attention anyways.

Product placements are EVERYWHERE today...slowly they've been infesting and infecting our lives so much that we need to take a stand. No, I don't want advertisements PLASTERED across sports stadiums....No, I don't want a movie made specifically to endorse products (XXX)...No, I don't want to go to a film that SAYS it starts at 7PM only to have it start at 7:20 because they force us to watch ads.. (ADS, NOT PREVIEWS).

This is what I agree with... A theatre shows previews and has a well kept, quality establishment and because of that people go to view films there. What I DON'T agree with... this happens and ON TOP OF THAT they try and make more money through ads. This isn't a matter of "well, it's either they raise ticket sales, make ads or go out of business".

As for people talking in theatres... this is a sign of a much greater epidemic. You can no longer EXPECT people to do the right/decent thing. If you do you'll go mad... Do you believe that people DON"T KNOW you shouldn't talk in a theatre? Do you think they DON"T KNOW you shouldn't have a cell on? The real question is, 'Why should I HAVE TO engage someone in a lesson in manners?'

It doesn't even matter anymore... it's been happening forever... did anyone even notice the ENORMOUS pepsi ad in Blade Runner? It's been happening forever and it's only going to get worse.

p.s. yay 100 posts

It's quite a simple choice. Would you rather:

A. Have the ads

B. Not have the ads and pay a higher ticket

It is as simple as that.

It's not as simple as that.

They don't need to raise ticket sales. If they are THAT greedy that they need to make profits ON TOP of the profits they already earn..then yes, it's as simple as that.

If they are worried that movies today stink and people would rather stay home (where their system's are better) or that their sales will decline, then annoying people and making the visits to the theatres less enjoyable (via ads) won't help business in the long run.

I am aware that stereotyping and prejudice are two different things. I was mocking your misuse of the word prejudice (hence why put it in quotes... or was my idiocy so great in doing so that you just could not comprehend what I had done, being the genius you are?)

Oh... and here's where you were being defensive:

Quote:
Personally, I ENJOY the commercials. It's nice to see what's coming up in the theaters soon
...sounds like you are defending the commercials to me. And , by defending them, you are in fact being defensive. Shocker eh?

Anything else?

...man that's just so true.Searyx would even change his opinion for an argument's sake. I bet if we got enough people posting on a thread about what a piece of shit Reign of Fire was, he'd do a 180 and end up arguing its greatness.
